      Velos Designwerks continues to show exceptional command of the BMW N63 V8 Twin Turbo V8 by setting a new horsepower record on the platform. Just a few weeks ago they hit 441 wheel horsepower with BimmerBoost member Jimefam's 6-speed manual 550i with AR Design downpipes. They have raised the bar to 461 wheel horsepower (STD on a dynojet). This is basically F10 M5 level horsepower.

      Obviously tuned N63's won't be quite as quick as the F10 M5 due to not having the dual clutch transmission but the N63 is at least approaching the stock horsepower levels of the S63tu in the M5 and M6 which is quite impressive. The motor also has a lot more left in it with additional bolt on hardware and that is before turbo/manifold upgrades come into the picture.

      We are not sure why this car is putting out more power than Jimefam's 6-Speed car with downpipes. We will get clarification from Velos shortly on if these numbers are with downpipes as well or higher octane fuel. Regardless, this is a new record and shows what the N63 is capable of with proper tuning. Remote tuning is still not yet an option on these cars and they must be done at the Velos Designwerks facility.

        Why is this putting down higher horsepower than the 6-speed 550i with downpipes? This is pump gas and tune only? Through an automatic?

        Imagine what kind of numbers a tuned M5 is going to put down..cant wait to see that. These new twin turbo motors BMW is coming out with are looking very potent

        Waiting to see tuned dynojet numbers but stock it should be slightly healthier than this. Still goes to show the N63 can approach the S63 numbers even without the trick manifold and larger turbos. The S63 also has less room to gain stock.

        The question really becomes if an N63 can be turned into an S63 and then some. Turbo upgrades clearly aren't out there right now (Alpina only really) but this is nice progress. I want to see one of the bad boys really opened up.

        I'm a little confused and I can't access YouTube from my laptop so what car did this happen in? Was it another 550? If so was it the 2013 with the already 45 hp extra or the older one at 400 bhp?

        Those are some really nice numbers, but sometimes I wonder if the tune will last or does the tuner push it to it's limit jsut to show these numbers and then the car starts to have problems later.

        Either way, props to Velos for getting there. They are certainly looking like a force to be reckoned with in the tuning world.

        I think as long as you maintain the proper octane you will be fine.

        Right now they are at the forefront of the N63. Nobody else is even close.

        Hey Sticky,

        Both are automatics.

        The downpipe equipped F10 had a peak gain of 20 ft-lbs and 18 rwhp before 5K RPM but lost 23 ft-lbs and 20 rwhp between 5K and redline when compared to the F07; both running stock software.

        However, the F10 550 with DP's had about 25K more miles than the F07 (which was relatively new) and the F07 dynoed in ~85 degree weather where the F10 dynoed in 97+ Degree weather. Just some notes for whatever they're worth. It could very well be a a matter of one engine being stronger.

        Yes, it is an Auto.

        Correct, the F07 is completely stock other than the tune. Both cars ran 93 pump gas.

        No prob.

        Honestly, prob not. Well not in the immediate future anyway.

        Don't think the turbo's will move enough air to make the 40+ rwhp over the tune.

        But nothing is impossible.

        Add intake to that list. These turbo engines gain a good amount of power with a proper intake.

        Looks like it will need bigger turbos for that but with full bolt ons it may get close.

        Very nice gains for sure. What sort of software are you using? Did you implement and develop the tuning software or are you just recalibrating with it?

        Impressive so far. I was hoping that the turbos had more room for hp gain. Does the X6/X5(non-M) use the same turbochargers?

        @Sticky yeah my car is an auto as well and I know it was hot and humid as $#@! when they dyno'd it. I should be back home next Friday and I'll see if I can take it to the track to see improvement over my previous best. Btw I don't think the downpipes are helping and I'd venture a guess that I'd probably see a gain if I could put the stockers back on.

        Well I think if you have that hunch you should test it.
