With the increased dimensions the car will have better crash protection and also offer great comfort inside. Trunk space also increases by 30 liters.
The exciting news is that even though the car is larger and offers more space inside it is lighter. By how much? 220 pounds! Very significant weight loss which comes from lightweight material in the chassis/body as well as lighter motors. They even shaved 5 pounds by using new wiring loom. This weight is saved without the use of expensive materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber so the price remains low. Definitely impressive.
Well what about horsepower? The GTI will get a 222 horsepower EA888 2.0 liter turbocharged and direct injected four cylinder from Audi. We can't wait to see what a Golf R model has in store for us.
The official debut is coming up soon on September 4th in Berlin, expect more details then.
