Renntech tuned SL65 AMG Black Series with 651 wheel horsepower takes on a bolt on Nissan GTR.. and loses?

How is this possible? The SL65 is supposed to have a huge power advantage...something seems off here.

Everything is fake to them. They forgot too that the SL had traction issues in the first race vs AWD car, in the next one the SL got the jump and the GT-R kept pulling slowly. Did you take a look at the SL driver ? He's a group of people sitting on that seat !

Btw this GT-R belongs to a Qatari that studies in the US, Renntech knows about this race.

Somebodies numbers are off... Despite the weight disparity the HP advantage the SL should enjoy seems off. I suspect the power on the SL is lower and the GTR is making more than stated to be that far apart.

I dont think so.

The SL is making aound 600-650 RWHP and weighs aound 4600 lbs, whereas, the GTR that is making 550 RWHP weighs aound 3500-3600 lbs. There is no magic in this. Check out Dragtimes and see what a similar power GTR makes at the quarte mile against a Renntech tuned SL65...

Check out that Renntech SL, it's actually making 651 rwhp and a torque of 814 ft/lb. ( dyno video )

Info never hurts had you posted the dyno info and specs that you apparently had for the SL65 it would be easier to decipher. Now based on the posted dyno the car makes 651rwhp and over 800lb-ft of tq. Thats some 19% in drivetrain loss to get to 651rwhp, so either thats one power sucking trans or its overrated.

The GTR weights over 3800lbs stock and the SL65 BS is roughly 4300lbs. With the mountain of tq the SL has the second run shows a better depiction of the SL's ability despite the weight disadvantage, tq is what moves your car effectively and the SL has it in spades. So my suspicion here is confirmed I think the SL is slightly overrated HP wise... I'll stand by my statement

Some companies just inflates their power rating on packages we all know that, but that SL is actually 651 rwhp and the GT-R has 100 rwhp less. You also know that SL has the MCT tranny which sucks more HPs.

In the second run , SL got the jump and with all that torque it had to be infront at least until the GT-R started pulling.

What would you think the result will be if they had a 3rd try with no traction issues with the SL and nobody gets a jump ?

the gtr is no where near 3500lb its a tick under 4000lb, and as far as a weight advantage that plays a larger role from a dig, once a car has momentum and is already rolling the affect of weight is allot smaller. so for a car that is down over 100hp to another to just drive around it like that doesnt make any sense, so either one is over rated or one is under rated. if you watch the mb drivers hand he is downshifting as the second race starts as if he isnt ready or isnt racing in the correct gear.

The GT-R always will get the advantage from low speeds , first race started from 20 so it launched smoothly while the SL had traction issues, that's enough to make the GT-R win by the margin you've seen.

In the second race the GT-R started in the best gear where as the SL started in the wrong one, you can see the SL driver slowed down, down shifted, then accelerated as soon as the GT-R slowed down too and got the jump. I believe that the weight of the driver in that SL with a passenger played a big role in that race.

GTR's really shine in the low end. They have tight gearing and the shifts are instant and no boost is lost, as well as the tires having 100% grip thanks to the AWD system. But we see the GT-R walking away top end. I'm guessing the driver and passenger are a good 600lbs combined extra weight over the SL65's curb weight. GT-R is probably around 3900 lbs so with normal driver it is probably 4,075lbs. 700+lbs weight difference plus a very inferior transmission and possibly high rated dyno numbers...plus whos to say the GT-R wasn't running race fuel. It's youtube, guys.

The info has to be wrong...805 HP vs. 551...thats a HUGE difference...the SL should be wiping the floor with the GTR especially with the torque difference also...unless I missed an edit or something, the info HAS to be wrong...

I believe that's 805hp to the crank versus 551whp, and weight is a major deciding factor at lower speeds.

Not uncommon with this poster.

Here is a race that has caused some confusion on the boards and rightfully so. We have a Renntech tuned SL65 Black Series that is putting out 651 horsepower to the wheels. The GTR is believed to have 551 wheel horsepower from bolt on's with an AMS intake, exhaust, and tune. The Nissan GTR is essentially said to have an AMS Alpha-6 package which is capable of propelling it to a 10.6@130 in the 1/4 mile.

The SL65 Black Series in stock form runs a mid 11 second 1/4 mile in the 125-126 mile per hour range. The GTR is lighter but not but all that much lighter with the SL65 Black Series coming in at the mid 4300 pound mark. It is also rear wheel drive with more horsepower and torque through the curve. It does not have the quick shifting dual clutch transmission of the GTR or the tight gearing down low. However, that does not explain how the GTR runs away at higher speeds where the V12's power should take over.

The only logical conclusion is that the GTR has more than we are being told. A disparity of 100 wheel horsepower at higher speeds where the tight gearing down low is not paying the same dividends simply should favor the SL65. Yet we see the GTR increase the gap up top. Video descriptions without dyno graphs or mod lists to back them are very difficult to take seriously with these types of results and we always encourage users to question what they see when the claimed numbers do not add up.

A stock SL65 AMG Black Series will dyno 560-570 wheel horsepower. With another 80 wheel it should be capable of at the very least matching the GTR trap speeds with the Alpha 6 package and realistically should pull it up top. Come to your own conclusion.
