BMW updates all N63 V8 Turbo cars to the 445 horsepower N63TU motor for 2013 except the 2013 X5 50i and X6 50i

BMW introduced the N63TU (technical update) motor with the
6 Series Gran Coupe. The N63B44TU gets its power boost from the addition of Valvetronic (variable valve timing system which replaces the conventional throttle butterfly) and new tuning. As expected, this updated motor will be going into all N63 vehicles such as the 550i, 550GT, 650i, and 750i. Curiously absent are the X5 and X6. Why BMW would continue to give them the standard N63 when they are replacing this motor in all other models we have no clue.
The horsepower boost is very nice but the new Valvetronic motors have yet to display an advantage in aftermarket tuning. The newer N55 turbo six with Valvetronic versus the N54 twin turbo without Valvetronic being a good example of this. It may not be a bad idea for perspective buyers to get a good deal on the models without the newer motor and
simply do an aftermarket tune.
