Congratulations to Audi for running their electric car where the big boys play, on the Nurburgring. The R8 E-tron laid down a very impressive 8:09.099 laptime. The lithium-ion battery in the R8 stores enough energy for a distance of about 134 miles. On paper this should allow for about 10 laps of the 12.92 mile Nurburgring although that distance number likely shrinks with use of full power. The battery also pushes the curb weight to 3,924 pounds making the laptime even more impressive.
This achievement shows Audi is dead serious about moving forward with the E-tron R8 and also keeping the performance level fairly high. With 3,924 pounds and around 300 horses the chassis is clearly dialed in with this laptime exceeding cars with more power showing electric performance is not only viable but it will improve considerably in the future.
