BimmerBoost user cracks 500 wheel horsepower in his ESS supercharged E39 M5 S62 V8 kit at 9 psi

The first dyno pulls showed only 5.5 psi of boost even though I am was using a 92mm pulley. I went back to the shop and tested for boost leaks and everything checked out. I have seen that this setup on other M5's were netting more around 8-9 psi. After doing some reading, I realized that in fact the intake tube pre-supercharger was actually causing a restriction under high load. I would see higher boost under barely open throttle conditions.
After redesigning the intake tube I began seeing a max of 7 psi. Car put down 473/383 with water/methanol injection.

This past week I put on a 88mm pulley, and am reaching a peak of 9 at 7000 rpm. Car put down 516/424. After owning my car for 6 years, adding this kit has made driving it a whole new experience. Very happy.

Glad to hear you are happy. Interesting though that the intake tube was causing problems and that also you needed 9 psi to crack 500. I believe they were claiming 500+ at much less boost...

Looks like a pretty damn perfect torque curve too!

This is why I like to see "real" users results.

Big difference in practice...

This car has factory manifolds and a full exhaust with no cats. I can't post videos until i get more posts. Gay.

Additionally, these pulls were done right after putting on the 88mm pulley, and 2 days after clearing adaptations on the ecu. So the car is still refining the fuel curve. AFR's at peak horsepower were on target, but it was still running very rich throughout the whole power band up until 5000 rpm.

Looking forward to seeing how the ecu adapts but to maximize with the pulley you will likely need a retune. Might as well wait until you get aftermarket headers. I think you can get this in the 540's.

These runs were when it put down 473.

The vehicle pictured here belongs to BimmerBoost user Omni who was kind enough to share the results of his ESS supercharged E39 M5 with us. Raising the boost to 9 psi with an 88mm pulley he was able to hit 516 wheel horsepower up from the 473 wheel horsepower he put down at lower boost with water-methanol injection. He is very happy with his kit and this is solid power. The only question we have to raise is how did ESS hit 501 wheel horsepower at 6 psi when actual customer dynos are showing it takes far more boost and are not able to replicate the claims?

This is a 2001 E39 M5 with 135,000 miles on it. Stock headers and a full exhaust with no cats:

I would love to see you run some boosted E39s by RK Autowerks/Evolve Automotive! You seem to be making similar power to their Stage 2 kit.

ESS is known to publish numbers using different pulleys and much higher effective octane and more aggressive tuning than what they offer end users... no surprise there.

Their kits are usually pretty solid though.

It's very well known by people who follow the BMW tuning scene. Brey is spot on.
