      Why the Nissan GT-R keeps getting included in performance luxury sedan comparisons we have no clue. Maybe a statement being made about its weight? Who knows, but the M5 and CLS are not the GT-R's competition. Regardless, this test gives us more insight on the acceleration figures of the Performance Package M157 AMG motors versus the F10 M5. The cars accelerate even to 100 mph at which point by 124 mph the CLS with the Performance Package opens up a gap. Through the 1/4 mile the M5 runs a tenth faster but the CLS63 has the higher trap speed.

      Impressive showing by the M5 to hang with the Performance Package car as closely as it does and to edge it out slightly in elapsed time. The CLS is clearly pulling harder though with a trap of 121.7 versus the M5's 119.9. No surprise the GT-R easily beats both in the acceleration department. What we learn from this however is the Performance Package is faster albeit slightly so non-Performance Package cars are going to struggle against the M5. Impressive for the BMW with its smaller displacement and greater weight. The DCT is doing wonders for it.

      Around the road course the M5 beats the CLS significantly with a lap of 1:24.89 to 1:26.30. The heavier M5 wins again. The GTR obviously crushes both with a time of 1:20.55.

        They keep doing it, it's annoying. Mostly the Europeans though.

        Will be interesting to pit the m5 against a car more in its class (next e-class AMG). IMO, the cls and the m5 arent that great of a comparison. Still much better than comparing them to a GT-R Click here to enlarge

        They are just using the CLS because it got the motor first and is easier to come by.

        I would prefer to wait and do a proper comparison personally if it was my magazine. I also wouldn't include the GTR but the cars in its class, CTS-V, etc.

        maybe Nissan should throw in the Maxima or Altima for the sedan comparison .

        I would throw a VW Touareg TDI in there also... It's a also a twin turbo six.
