      With increased competition from Audi who intends to bring a Q4 to market as well as the Mercedes GLC and Porsche Cajun BMW is preparing its US plant to produce an F26 X4. The X4 will share the powertrain and platform of the X3. So, the motor, horsepower, and transmission options as well as the weight are all pretty much known. Expect an X4 xDrive35i with 300 horsepower from an N55 turbo inline six and a curb weight of about 4200 pounds.

      The rendering itself leaves a lot to be desired as AutoExpress just took an X3 and gave it a hatch along with a sloping rear roof. We think BMW will differentiate the model from the X3 a bit more than that as they did with the X6 from the X5. Will we see an M version? Well, the M brand has been basically turned out a like a cheap.... well, fill in the blank. M no longer means what it used to so we would not be surprised to see an M version of this car which actually makes more sense than an X6 M in a lot of ways. Namely that the weight and handling should be much better for performance. An M version will be necessary to compete with a Q4S/RS as well as an AMG version of the GLC. Porsche will likely do a turbo Cajun as well.

        Makes no sense to me but all they want is sales volume.

        Yeah I guess so, but a z4m with the n54 from the 1m or even better the s65 v8 would have better sales figures than any m suv or x4.

        If that was true they would likely build it.

        The thing is, they should build it anyway because it is the right thing to do.

        Sadly it isn't true, BMW in NA sold only 3000 Z4 M's but in 2010 BMW sold more than 6000 X6's in NA. a cheaper X4 would even have better sale figures.

        An M version of this would not be N54 based.
