      That is exactly what Autocar is reporting although they have been known to jump the gun and gets things wrong from time to time. BMW just recently did a tri-turbo setup on their diesel M motor so obviously it can be done and manufacturers are going forward with it. Autocar states there are patent applications made by Porsche which show a system using a small turbo for low end response and two bigger turbos for power up top. This setup may find its way into the GT2 as well. We are waiting for more details on these new triple turbo system as thus far there has been little technical documentation about the motors and turbo system from either BMW or Porsche.

        that's a sweet render of the 991 turbo. whatever set up it has, we know it'll be fast.

        I just wonder what there reasoning would be to go to 3 turbos.

        i would assume fuel efficiency and better response

        I think you are likely right just now sure why these three turbos would be so much more efficient than two. Response is probably a big factor.

        The small turbo taking care of the response, the two main turbos can be bigger and more efficient (VE) - better fuel mileage and more power. I'm still amazed on the results of adding the third turbo on the 3-liter diesel. Performance oriented cars just can't ignore the option of going for 3xturbo.
