      BMW continues to test the 2013 F80 M3 which is no surprise as we should see it next year after all with the F30 3 Series having already made its debut. The real question is about the motor, what will it be? Yes, the V8 will be replaced and the motor will be turbocharged. Will it be a tweaked N55? Or will it be the rumored 3.3 liter tri-turbo V6 with 450 horsepower? No matter what the motor choice we should expect power in the 450 range which unfortunately leaves the M3 outgunned both in displacement, power, and tuning potential versus its rivals namely the C63 AMG the next generation of which should get the 5.5 liter twin turbo M157 V8 from AMG.

        @KB, the point that it died is what sucked... Imagine a low boost s54b32 - we have seen what this thing does at a single BAR, let's leave at .5 BAR for "safety" - we would still have that awesome torque curve to 8150 AND another 200 horsepower (guessing) to boot. I am not trying to argue here - just saying, I think they could have done better than tuning a 135i and calling it a day/hoping people don't notice.

        Calm down. Like BMW is going to bring some bullsh_t to market (F07 GT not included)! It is a new M3, look at the fender flares. If you can't get excited about that and the power that it implies then you are not tuned in at all. Give them credit. They will not mess up the M3. And BMW is trying to work with the current and future emissions just like everyone else. V6 is not going to happen. Just like BMW is not going to ditch the 3 Series for the 4 Series which is for a lineup priced above the 3 Series and allows them to enter new niches for them.

        I agree...The next M3 will destroy the e9x just like the e9x destroys the e46m. There is always going to be people that hate the new model. I remember when the spyshots for the e9x were coming out and the rumors about the v8 and how everyone was saying the e46 was the last of the true M cars...now it is e9x people saying they own the last of the true M cars...happen every generation.

        All the comparos back in 2008, the C63 had the quickest 0-60, 0-100, and 1/4 miles times.

        That's my point! @Sticky , you are already $#@!ing about the rumored stats but the new M3/M4 will probably be down in HP to the C class AMG the same amount it is now so whats the big deal?
        Someone has to keep BMW in check. I'm not a fan of playing second fiddle and BMW used to put in more effort. I remain optimistic but they have been on a downward swing and this horsepower rumor in my opinion continues it. Especially considering their models are getting fat.

        We already know the F8x M3 will be lighter than the e9x M3 based on the regular 3 series. Even more so since it will be going from the V8 to the new V6tt. I bet it will be in the 150 to 200lb range.
        You do know the S65 V8 was lighter than the 6 cylinder it replaced that did not have turbos, right?

        Because the cylinder and displacement disadvantage now becomes even bigger.

        They did bull$#@! like the 5GT and the 1M plus cancelling the M sports car so I have little faith as of right now.

        There is a RWD mode on the 2012 model, and you can remove the AWD components to save weight.
        On the other hand 4 wheels get the power to the ground a lot better making AWD quicker 90% of the time. Especially with tuned GTR, there is a lot of power looking for finding some traction. Depends where you live, of course. In my case AWD is always quicker. Especially on ice, snow and wet...

        Similarly, the new M3 will beat C63AMG.

        Regarding 3-series weights, E46 is heavy compared to E36. In the last couple of decades there is the trend of people not fond of being killed. So the demand (and authorities) require better safety, which means more structural stiffness and more mass. M3 E92 is not heavy at all considering the increased safety to the predecessor. From now on the preferred level of safety is achieved and the enhancements in tech and materials can keep the weight at least not increasing, even though there is still the trend of growing the new versions' dimensions a bit. What makes driving BMW enjoyable is the relatively low weight and agility compared to the competitors of the same era.

        The F10 M5 has won every comparo so far. Not to bad for being a fat pig. Actually, it beat all the "real" M cars also...interesting...HMMM...

        Yes, and unless they are going to use that same engine in the next M3, you argument is pointless...
