I'll have to see this in person but it sure has a lot of CLS in it. They could have at least done something more exciting in the back.

The NEW SL is going to be really beautiful. To say that it wont be much different than the R230 just shows that you dont know what you are talking about. wait for the new SL to hit the streets and you will know what I'm talking about. the picture shown above is the original Merceds version, not the AMG. The AMG version will be lowered and has an aggresive front/rear bumber, and the M157 engine. Folks this SL will put the old SL in the trash. More powerful and stylish. Mercedes never introduced a new generation that isnt advanced in looks an power. That idealogy will continoue with the SL. If you have an SL63 or SL65, now is the time to sell it and think about getting this one.How much do you want to bet that A tune only for the new SL with M157 from renntech would slash the life out of the 2009 SL65 in all RPM ranges?

I'm going by what I saw in the pictures. Why would I not know what I'm talking about? I have my own eyes and my own opinion and in my opinion this is not that much of a departure, it's mild.

As stated it will have a variety of changes the major of which are under the skin. Nobody is denying it won't be more powerful and it will also be lighter.

You are kind of pulling this out of left field. Nobody criticized the performance or claimed it would not perform. The first thing my mother (who owns an SL) said when I sent her the photos of the new SL was it looks just like hers. You may be able to tell, the average person won't because this is a mild styling update.

Lowering it and more aggressive body work won't change that. This is nowhere near the departure the R230 way and considering I have hands on experience with both generations I would think I know what I'm talking about.

The new generation SL is a completely different car than the previous SL. You want to tell me that because your mother saw the photos of the new SL and said that there was no diffrence, that is going to be a good excuse?

Since when did women tell a good diffrence between two cars?. I swear to god my mother once thought my C63 was her sister's (my aunt) honda Accord.

The New SL class, has a new and more powerful engine, new body kit, new face, a whole new interior design and interior panel, diffrent tail look, and weighs less.
Wait for it to hit the streets and you will see. Only time will tell and convince you.

No, what I am saying is clearly it isn't a huge difference styling wise.

You don't have to sell me on the new SL. I think it is great inside and out and an improvement where it needed it most. I like the SL's a whole lot I'm just saying the styling is not a big change. Even the spyphotos basically looked like an R230.

Take a look at the 1954 300SL

and the 2009 SL63

huge diffrence in styling over this time period, now if you cant see that, then your the one with the issues partner.

You aren't really making sense.

Take a look at the R230 and R231. If you can see a huge difference in styling it may be time to see the optometrist.

I'm not sure why you seem to think the styling not being a huge difference in my opinion is somehow me putting the car down.

I'll change my mind about the design not being a large departure? No, I don't think so. Plus, you could already tell in spyphotos it was going to maintain the R230 proportions which it does.

I like the way it looks. I like the car in general. The styling is just a mild update. That is my opinion.

The stereo controls and AC vent look almost identical to the ones found in the SLS. The back of the car looks like it was borrowed from the CLS. The front grill resembles the SLS and CLS but the head lights are much closer to the CLS. I'll have to see one in person from different angles to see how it all falls together.
