Well, congratulations to Sebastian Vettel who broke the record for pole positions in a season with 15. This breaks Nigel Mansell's record which stood for 19 years. A remarkable achievement any way one looks at it. Nico Rosberg qualified in 6th place making the top 10 in 18 of the last 19 races. Michael Schumacher in what may be his last race qualified in the 10th position. The last race of the season takes place tomorrow at 8 AM PST.

      Nico Rosberg

“That was a good qualifying session today. We saved a set of option tyres for the race, and we qualified ahead of one of the Ferraris which has always been my goal during the season. So I’m quite pleased to be starting from sixth place tomorrow. I was maybe a little too slow on my out lap in Q3 so my tyres didn’t work perfectly on my fast lap, and that’s why I wasn’t as quick as in Q2. I will push to gain a good result tomorrow for the team who have done a great job over the whole season.”

      Michael Schumacher

“The forecast says there is a high probability for rain during the race. With this in mind, we have kept all of our options open for tomorrow and we had a strategic approach to qualifying today. Still we need to find out why we weren’t able to match our times from this morning. There will be a lot of data checking now, so that tomorrow it will be very different and we can attack for some points.”

      Ross Brawn

“We had a reasonable final qualifying session of the season today. There was a threat of rain throughout, which meant we ran slightly earlier than we ultimately needed to in some of the sessions to be on the safe side. Nico’s run in Q2 was very impressive, and that performance potential augurs well for the race. Michael took a measured approach to Q3, in order to save a new set of tyres, and he is in a good position strategically. We know how good he has been on the first lap this year, so we’re looking forward to finding out what will be possible in the race. Rain is still forecast for tomorrow but the same was true of today, so we are working with a measure of uncertainty. I’ll know it’s raining when the top of my head gets wet…”

      Norbert Haug

“Nico looked strong in Q2 when he set the second fastest time, which was about half a second quicker than his Q3 time later on. The second row of the grid, instead of the third, could have been possible today for him. Nevertheless, we should be in good shape for the race tomorrow when rain is predicted, which could mix up the field a bit. We still need to investigate what happened to Michael, as he was not happy with his car and tyre combination after looking strong during all three practice sessions. In tomorrow’s final race of the season, both Nico and Michael will be aiming for a respectable result, similar to what we achieved in recent races.”

And Webber wins the final race of the 2011 season.
This race was all about gear box failures. Vettel had them, which made Webber catch him, and Hamilton actually had to retire with a broken gearbox.
So, webber first, Vettel still managed second place limping the car home, shortshifting 2nd and 3rd for half the race. Button 3rd, Alonso 4th and Massa invisibly 5th.
Rosberg finished 7th. Michael Schumacher had a coming together with Petrov, which gave him a flat and determined his race uotcome. He finished 15th. Petrov did get a drivethrue for that move, but the dead was done.
Despite all predictions it never rained.

The 2011 Formula 1 season is officially over. For Mercedes, there were ups and downs (mostly downs unfortunately). Redbull and Sebastian Vettel simply dominated and it was not ever really close. The fight for second and third place was really the only exciting battle. Michael Schumacher finished the season in 8th place. Interestingly, one spot behind his teammate Nico Rosberg. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel for a dominating season and we look forward to next year which hopefully is more competitive.

Sorry for no F1 reports this week Sticky, My router crapped out and had no internet all last week. Still no internet at home, I want to play BF3! Good race though, Button kills me sometimes. I've seen him in some races this year where he takes it easy with the car in the first part of the race and then starts pushing it way too late in the game to challenge for 1st or 2nd. I was wondering if we would see Hamilton vs Massa round 5, but his gearbox gave out.

Hi Scourge. I've missed you here. I covered for you though.
Button has not been getting the Mc Laren through longer corners fast with a heavy fuel load all year.
Once the fuel load was under 50% he appeared happy with the balance in the car and was mostly able to keep up with the Red Bulls, or catching them.

Thanks man. Yeah I noticed that to about Button, kinda funny Alonso was having the opposite problem this year. Once he put on the hard tires, he looked very unhappy with the car.

I'm already looking forward for next year. I don't think Red Bull will continue their domination. I expect Mclaren and possibly Mercedes GP to catch up and challenge for the title next year. We know what the Mclaren drivers can do. Rosberg has shown he can challenge, but lacks consistency and MS has shown a glimps of his old self, but had some very unlucky weekends. Mercedes GP needs to start looking at some of the other younger drivers out there like Di Resta, regardless if MS leaves or stays next year. I really don't see Ferrari improving next year and see them fighting for 3rd place with Renault and Force India. If they go back to their creative mentality, like they had back with MS, Jean Todt, and Ross Brawn, I can see them challenging, but as of right now I don't see it.

Dunno, Red Bull still has Adran Newey. That man is a genius. He always finds possibilities other designers just miss.
Mc Laren at least ended the eason very strong.
But they were still developing the car until the last races, wheras Red Bull arlready was fully working on the 2012 car.
Whitmarsh has at least stated they want to start strong next year, but every team states that...
