      RENNtech is proud to announce our latest ECU performance upgrade for the all new M278 engine currently in the C218 CLS 550, E550, CL550, S550 and other upcoming Mercedes models. We have been hard at work refining our performance tune for these engines and are pleased to announce our latest ECU upgrade. It’s clear that the 4.6L V8 biturbo engine from Mercedes is certainly underrated from the factory and though our extensive testing and R&D; our ECU upgrade truly unleashes the performance lurking in the M278 engine.

      RENNtech’s ECU upgrade for the M278 offers huge gains across the entire RPM range; increasing crank performance numbers an additional 70 HP and 80 TQ. This translates to an astonishing 530 HP and 606 lb/ft of torque at the crank! These numbers are factored at a conservative 15% drive train loss.

      The performance increase is instantly noticeable at the bottom end and continues throughout the biturbo engines broad powerband.

        Congrats! Nice to know the c63 black will be outrun in a straight line by a garden variety CLS!

        Just the nature of factory twin turbo motors.

        The C63 with boost though will outrun it...

        The CLS550 is rear wheel drive standard, 4 Matic all-wheel drive is optional for the first time on this model in the USA. Looks like the 4 Matic is standard equipment in Canada and part of the reason the base price is $84,500 in Canada vs $71,300 in the US.

        I'd be willing to bet that a RT CLS550 4 matic would take the CLS63 in a flat out street race from a dig due to higher torque to the tires and more available traction from the 4 matic.

        Thoughts?

        I agree with you but you are talking about a CLS63 with the M156 correct?

        Definitely with the M156.. But I think even with the M157 it's a fairly good possibility in a street drag.

        The problem is that on the majority of these f'ing asphalt roads you just can't get any traction.

        Just for grins the other day I did some V-box'ing using the launch control on my ZR1 and the best it would do on a regular paved road is 0 to 60 in 5.2 due to EXCESSIVE wheel spin. I turned that computer crap off and the best I could get under those conditions was 4.3.

        That is mainly the problem, traction. The AWD will make this great in a stoplight battles.

        I do not know of any poster running this currently but I think one can be very confident with Renntech.

        Also, I sent a PM to RENNtech asking for some 0-60 and 1/4 mile data for M278 powered CLS or E (coupe). Don't know if they have it, but we'll see.
