      Everyone knows GM (General Motors) was the biggest automaker for decades. The mighty fell (and needed loans, from taxpayers) as Toyota passed them by. Volkswagen is currently up 13% on its 2010 global sales and 8.1 million is the estimate for its 2011 sales. In second place is General Motors with an estimate of 7.55 dropping off after having led the first half of 2011 which is fairly impressive in a down economy. Toyota is down about 9% at this point and likely to end up in third place falling behind GM and VW. Impressive work by the VW group.

        VAG owns like 8 companies, I wouldn't doubt it one bit. Good for them! They make great quality cars.

        Yes but many of them are premium brands making this all the more impressive.
