      Many sites around the web are reporting the baby SLS was approved for production as if this was news. We told you about this in May of this year but we are glad everyone else is catching up to BenzBoost finally. The interesting tidbit here is not that the car is coming but the motor it will have under the hood. With a $100k price point it would absolutely crush the 911 with the twin turbo M157. What we think will happen is it will get an M157 variant without the turbos, just like the M152 in the new SLK55, to put it at around 422 horsepower making for a great match-up.

      The M152 make sense as we doubt Mercedes produced it solely for one model, the SLK. This also means there will be room for a hotter AMG version which will naturally go right up against the 911 turbo. The only motor that would make sense in that case would be the twin turbo M157 to take on the best from Porsche. The $100k naturally aspirated version with ~422 horsepower would naturally go against the 400 horsepower Carrera S and the M157 twin turbo version would naturally go against the new 991 Turbo. Seems logical to us, bring it on Mercedes.

        wow, those renders do suck.

        anyway, i don't think it's a good idea. Everyone in this segment buy 911, they don't ask " So, what are the other competitors? ", they just buy a 911.

        It's a brilliant idea. I'm stoked for this car, just hope it really looks more SLS than SLK.

        Agreed, that third render looks perfect I'd buy that one in a heartbeat (well, actually I'd still buy a 911)

        After having a 911 for a few months, I think there is definitely a market for a competitor from Mercedes tipping the scale a little more towards daily livability and ride comfort. The 911 we had (997 Carrera S) was a ridiculously precise driver's tool, on a smooth road it was untouchable, but over even slightly bumpy roads it broke your back and my 6'3 frame didn't fit in those seats at all. There's a reason we sold ours for an E90 M3.

        Sounds pretty cool, Porsche could use the competition, their cars have gotten kinda stale.

        This car will have a V8 no matter what which tips the scales from the 911 in its favor IMO since the 911 is limited in that respect.
