• BMW X1 indefinitely postponed for USA, may not arrive until facelift or next generation

      This information comes courtesy of BMWblog. They are reporting that the X1 is indefinitely postponed after speaking with sources at a BMW event. We may not get the car here until 2013 if then. There simply is very high demand for the vehicle and the original delay dealt with production capacity. Frankly, we aren't all too upset about this as the X1 is not something we were really excited about. However, we like for the US market to get all BMW vehicles. Interestingly enough, the car is for sale in Canada.

        Once X3 sales slow down they will bring it over.

        The car is probably for sale in Canada and not the US because the US is a much, much bigger market. I remember hearing that the US is BMW's single biggest market (maybe this was for M cars or something more specific) so if you're having trouble keeping up with demand the last thing you want to do is launch in a gigantic market that loves small SUVs like America does.

        In a roundabout way I was saying BMW doesn't want to eat into X3 sales, since like you said they just launched the new model.

        X3's are flying off lots.

        I bet there are a number of those X3 buyers that would have opted for the cheaper X1.

        Likely true, the X3 is hot at the moment.
