      Well, the rumors about the new naturally aspirated 5.5 liter were true. The SLK55 will be getting an M157 5.5 liter variant but it will be missing the twin turbos. Bummer? We think so, but we all know the reason for it. The SLK with the twin turbo V8 would have simply stomped everything else in the lineup silly so this move is really to protect the other cars. A detuned twin turbo motor that could be uncorked similar to how the detuned C63 can be opened up with a tune is what we would want but this should still be a good amount of power.

        Good point in the write up about the most likely reason why this new car won't be getting a TT motor.

        Do you think there's a chance MB might be holding back until perhaps putting TT's on this engine for a BS down the road?

        I thought they would do a different motor in the C63 Black Series but they didn't. So, the BS version of this car if they make it will likely use a tweaked version of this motor.

        Another reason going around as to why this car did not get the turbos is because of limited spacing in the engine bay.

        I read somewhere that the C63 engine bay also has space limitations for the M157 TT.

        Also, the M156 isn't available in a F/I application. But, the M157 is. So if there wasn't space issues in the SLK, it wouldn't be that difficult to add the turbos.

        However, it's probably like you said originally, the car would just blow everything else away.

        It would be incredible with a high horsepower TT setup.

        I'm of the belief that if Mercedes wanted to, they could put the M157 as is in either the C63 or the SLK.

        It would have been one hell of a car with the TT. I would prefer the M156 in it over this new NA M157 but Mercedes made their decision.

        Same here. I would prefer the M156. It has more power.

        I wonder what trans will be used? Also, will it have the rev match feature currently used with the M156?

        I would expect an MCT 7 speed trans.

        The rev match feature is a software issue so I would say yes.

        Yeah, it's really light. That's a lot of power for a car at that weight. With good grip, it will be fast.

        No doubt it will be fast, maybe even low 12's, but I will always question what it could have been.

        Me too.

        Mike, keep adding those C/F parts and you'll get there. One could wish at least.
