      A member of LS1tech is doing one of the coolest things we have ever seen by swapping an LS1 V8 into a Porsche 996. Yes, several Porsche enthusiasts have no doubt had heart attacks reading this headline. In a way, that is what makes this swap so cool as it will create controversy and have purists pulling their hair out while others applaud it. The car lost its original motor in a fire so no running 996 Turbos were harmed during this process.

        i read someone's comment on the youtube vid i posted and it mentioned the site in the poster's sig. ,,, so i came over Click here to enlarge

        as for who sait it can't be done : it was the same people who just came out with their conversion kit (and posted it on my thread Click here to enlarge ) - don't want to offend anyone here Click here to enlarge

        retaining AWD was the easy part ,,,, i almost did nothing Click here to enlarge all i had to do was shorten the front drive shaft about an inch or two because i moved the engine /trans forward by that much . to clarify things the trans is a stock 996 tt AWD trans .

        now for the palm tree , none were harmed that day Click here to enlarge i stopped about 2 feet from it . if any one askes i was "testing" how well the ABS worked on dirt Click here to enlarge (yes the fronts were not inflated - in my rush to get to testing i forgot to hook up my laptop , air up the fron tires from 8 psi , and tighten the rear axle nuts Click here to enlarge )

        and finally , we have more LS engines here than dirt ! (and we have alot of dirt Click here to enlarge ) they come in suburbans, trucks, corvettes, camaro's and trans AMs, Caprices and luminas - basically aussi holdens and commodors - which are the same as pontiac G8s. so there is no shortage of LS engines ,,,,,, porsche engines on the other hand are a totally different story Click here to enlarge

        That is a long thread, would you mind pointing me in the right direction? So someone told you it couldn't be done and then they came out with a conversion kit for 911's? Is that right?

        There is a Maserati Merac in the junk yard here, i always wanted to put a S62 in it but everyone said no no, you are ruining a master piece and such so i canceled the project. unlike me you got the courage to do this, thank you!

        at the time there were two buyers for that car, me and someone else. i didn't have the money to pay $20000 for a Maserati V6 with 0 KM, so i thought a BMW V8 might work.

        i don't know what happened to that car, it seems that guy finally bought it.

        Just wanted to say thanks for the info 1DirtyZ, I'm going to try to find a 911 without a motor to do a similar swap.
