The third generation Porsche Boxster is set to launch in 2012.
CAR magazine reports that the Boxster will gain a 4 cylinder motor which it will not be sharing with the 911. The design of the new 981 Boxster is all new from the ground up, with a more cab forward design. The wheelbase will be about 2 inches longer, height 10 mm lower, and the projected weight is down about 33 pounds to 2904 pounds for the base model. The current 6 cylinder units will be used with slight bumps in power but the real news is a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder that will likely be offered in both turbo and naturally aspirated forms.
