      Porsche is starting to open some eyes with their GT3 R Hybrid race car. We thought it was mostly a marketing gimmick but the vehicle is starting to come into its own. The car claimed its first victory at the fourth round of the Nurburgring Long Distance Championship. Hartmut Kristen, Head of Porsche Motorsport stated, “We’re very pleased with the technical level of the vehicle and the reliability of the hybrid system. Compared to our rivals, we saved one pit stop and with less external energy input our lap times were just as quick. This is what we mean by Porsche Intelligent Performance. ”

      One less pit stop is a BIG difference in a race. Goes to show it isn't always just about outright speed but also how efficient your car is. Audi has been proving this in LeMans with their diesels for some time.

      This is the second version of the GT3 R Hybrid race car, this 2.0 version weighing 100 pounds less than the original. It makes about 470 horsepower from the naturally aspirated flat-6 and another 200 horsepower is available on demand from the hybrid-electric system.

        Count me in with the people that thought it was just marketing. Impressive work by the p car guys. Also that second picture is sick

        I'm guilt of it as well. They have taken a while to get there but a victory is a victory.

        Definitely more than just marketing. The system they use is the same one that Williams used in their F1 cars. I believe Porsche licensed it from them. It's very complex and expensive, definitely not something they would invest in unless they were serious about it.
