      We have received some inside information from a tuner who has seen some of BMW's test files. Apparently, BMW has been testing the motor at various levels of boost, obviously knowing it will be tuned, with files up to 700 horsepower. BMW is aware of the Performance Package on the E63 and the tuner who had access to the files inside BMW reports that they are aggressively prodding the limits. What this means is that BMW may offer their own performance package software to compete with Mercedes who has them out-gunned on raw power according to the latest dyno numbers and that the motor will have plenty of headroom from the stock boost level.

      We also learned that there is a backorder of M5 parts already in dealer systems in the Middle East. The cams and manifolds are different between the F10 M5 and the X5/X6 M. We knew there would be differences when we saw that the M5 had a redline of over 7000 rpm compared to the X5/X6 M which are under 7k. The good news is that the F10 M5 parts will be able to be swapped onto the X5/X6 M S63 motors and possibly even the N63's. We are happy to see BMW putting extra effort into the motor to differentiate it somewhat making up for doing basically nothing with the 1M motor.

      The tuner source that leaked this information is a big name most of you know that has ties inside BMW.

        Interesting.

        I wonder what the new E63's will be putting down, since they will have a 5.5L (vs. the 4.4L in the BMW).

        Pretty much the same as to what the S63 AMG put down.

        When and I say WHEN BMW AG decides to offer a Performance Package for the F10, watch out. The engine looks great. And BMW won four titles at the International Engine of the Year. The S65 M3 4.0 V8 won for the fourth consecutive time. Way to go BMW AG!!!!!!!!!!Click here to enlarge

        Can't wait till the car is out and we get some real numbers on the dyno. This car should be a new platform for bmw and hopefully without any HPFP problems i'm sure they have learned. This is will be a nice comparison between benz v8 TT.

        Don't hold your breath on the performance package, we all know how much potential the N54 engine has and yet their power kit is only 20 more horses...I'd love to see a 700hp power kit for the M5 though Click here to enlarge

        Performance package is for the ppl that dont want to void their warranty lol. 20 horses, i feel that on my butt dyno.

        Well whether AMG was doing what they are or doing or not BMW would be exploring the limits of the motor. Just interesting they have all these high performance files sitting around and that a select tuner is getting to see them.

        They won't go as high as 700 hp for their own package but a tuner certainly might...

        I would expect it to dyno somewhere in the 47X-48X range.

        The S63 V8 twin turbo in the X5/X6 M runs 17.4 psi stock, the M5 should be around this same range.

        What you are suggesting is exactly what Mercedes does with the Performance Package, adding boost and leaving little room for tuners. The M5 will have some room to tune, unless it comes stock at 21 psi which I doubt. BMW is focusing on improving efficiency specifically on the top end through the manifold and cams, not increasing boost pressure.

        The S63 already comes with forged pistons and the rods are forged even on the N63 no way it can only handle the 500whp it'll probably be making. What will be maxed out at 21psi will probably be the turbos. That's why I think the S63 is such a bad value vs the N63 if you want to tune it higher. Both are gonna need to have their turbos upgraded to get real high up in HP but you start with an additional 25k in your pocket with the N63 to do it with.

        I'm not so concerned about being flashy so they can keep the M badge. I'll just be happy with the exact same car but faster for less.
