The Boxster S has received the majority of the press leaving the base Boxster out in the cold so to speak. This is the first test posted that PorscheBoost has come across featuring the base Boxster equipped with the 2.7 liter flat-6 putting out 265 horsepower and mated to the 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration performance from this motor and transmission combo is a very respectable 14.0@103 in the 1/4 mile. ...Published on 11-05-2012 03:38 PM
Here is the body piece offering by Caractere for the new Porsche 991. This is the same kit photos were posted of at SEMA. The body kit consists of a new front bumper, front lip, side skirts, rear wing, and diffuser. The side skirts integrate a non-functional rear vent which is an interesting styling element but considering how it offers no functionality and it is simply added on to the exterior body work makes it seem a bit tacky and unnecessary. ...Published on 11-03-2012 07:13 PM
Pretty natural move here with Porsche moving from the 997 to 991 for racing. Will the new 991 be more competitive? Well, it simply has to with BMW and Chevrolet beating up on Porsche in ALMS for the past few years. Not to mention Ferrari will be coming on strong and now Dodge is in the mix with the new Viper. Another piece of news is that the Porsche Flying Lizard ALMS team will no longer be a development partner. ...Published on 11-02-2012 02:50 PM
Is this how Porsche will finally move away from the 911? Porsche CEO Matthias Muller confirmed a mid-engined Porsche sports car is under development which will be a rival for the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C. This vehicle would be priced above the GT2 RS but obviously much less than the upcoming 918 Spyder hybrd-supercar. Expect similar $250,000-$300,000 pricing as the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C. ...Published on 10-30-2012 09:04 PM
Was great to see these wheels in person that have been generating a lot of buzz. Yes, 100% full carbon fiber wheel including the barrel that weighs only 15 pounds for a 19 inch. That kind of weight savings does not come cheap as a set of four costs $15,000. But... if you want the absolute lightest wheel and with dymag no longer in existence as a carbon wheel manufacturer (and that wheel was not 100% carbon fiber) this is it. ...Published on 10-29-2012 10:10 AM
Here is a fairly good looking body kit design for the new 958 Cayenne from United Kingdom based tuner Kahn Design. Much of what Kahn does tends to be tacky and overdone but this is one kit that works to a dgree. Obviously it includes wide fenders, a new front bumper, rear diffuser, and spoilers. The fenders are where the car falls apart a bit though as they look somewhat tacky and glued on. The white color of the car doesn't hide this well and but a darker color could off it off better. ...Published on 10-28-2012 04:11 PM
Here is SpeedART's 981 Boxster tuning program. They have parts available for the Boxster as well as the Boxster S. The body kit pictured is available for either car. It includes a new front spoiler, side skirts, wing, and rear diffuser. The body pieces are very good looking but the wing may be a bit much and does not look too clean. Interior upgrades are also available. ...Published on 10-24-2012 06:42 AM
Downpipes are an area turbocharged motor owners especially in the German car world definitely need to look at if they want maximum power out of their motors. Various German manufacturers tend to stick cats right off the downpipe and this is a major restriction. You want your turbos to breathe and the answer to that is the AR Design downpipes which they have just finished developing for the 955 and 957 generation Cayenne turbo. ...Published on 10-24-2012 12:37 AM
Obviously the Porsche Macan will be based on the Audi Q5 but that is about where the similarities end says Porsche. Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz states, "Everything has been modified. Engines, transmissions, suspension — it’s all new. Audi can’t believe what we’ve done. Audi should have no fears as the customers are so different." Yet, he also states the car will get a four cylinder motor meaning likely the same VW Group 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder. ...Published on 10-23-2012 01:31 AM
Introducing the Milltek Panamera Turbo and turbo S exhaust system. The exhaust features 70mm piping and CNC mandrel bends for the best flow. The system is valved so cruising off the throttle has the valves shut keeping noise down. When getting on the throttle the valves will open giving a nice throaty V8 sound. ...Published on 10-20-2012 06:43 PM
This is incredibly impressive. Keep in mind this is not the new 958 Cayenne (although the motors are very similar) but the previous generation 957 facelift. It has a 4.8 liter direct injected twin turbo V8 that is rated at 493 horsepower which puts down in the upper 300 wheel range to all four wheels in stock form. ...Published on 10-18-2012 09:24 PM
Introducing the Misha Designs body kit for the 955 and 957 Cayenne generation models which would be the original and the facelift. The Cayenne pictured is a 957 done in matte white. Yes, the wheels do appear small and they do not fill out the fenders as they are the standard wheels. DPE is making a custom set of 22 inch wheels for this particular widebody. ...Published on 10-18-2012 04:03 AM
Introducing the USP Motorsports 3 inch race exhaust system for the Porsche 996 Turbo. This is a race exhaust which means no catalytic converters. The exhaust also offers 40% weight savings over the stock exhaust system. Exhaust material is T-304 mandrel bent stainless steel and pricing is a reasonable $2,550. ...Published on 10-16-2012 11:22 PM
The Porsche 962 is a famous Porsche prototype race car that enjoyed various racubg success including private racing as well as securing an overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 and 1987. It is rare to see one let alone on public roads although 962's have been converted for street use as Dauer did with the 962 Le Mans road car. ...Published on 10-12-2012 02:40 PM
This one was not hard to see coming. With the existence of a Panamera Turbo S sharing a similar motor and the previous generation Cayenne Turbo S it was only natural for Porsche to give the new 958 generation Cayenne the Turbo S treatment. This bumps the Cayenne up from the 500 horsepower of the Turbo to 550 horsepower in the Turbo S. ...Published on 10-12-2012 02:50 AM
For 997 Carrera and Carrera S owners who want more power without trading their car in for a Turbo the only real answer to get a big boost is forced induction. VF-Engineering has had 997 supercharger kits out for a while now and here is a nice dyno overlay of a stock 997 Carrera and a VF-Engineering VF475 supercharged 997 Carrera. ...Published on 10-10-2012 11:34 PM
The new 991 generation Carrera certainly incorporates a ton of technology with its available dual clutch transmission, PASM (Porsche Active Stability Management), and PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control). MotorTrend decides to compare the new 911 to a car that is all about using technology to your advantage which is the Nissan GT-R. They ultimately come away with the feeling that the 911 is more fun to drive and that the GT-R feels artificial. Yes, the Nissan is a robot. ...Published on 10-09-2012 01:28 AM
Many of you will likely already be giving victory to the Porsche 911 in this instance. How can the little brother take on the iconic 911? Well, the fact of the matter is the Boxster/Cayman platform is artificially held back to protect the 911's image. Like it or not, the Boxster as well as the Cayman is a lighter and a better balanced vehicle thanks to its mid-engine layout. If the Boxster and 911 had equal power and suspension development, the Boxster would win every time. ...Published on 10-04-2012 06:00 PM
This is really not surprise as Volkswagen shares development across its brands. What is interesting though is that the future Porsche MSB (Modular Standard Platform or Modularer Standardantrieb-Baukasten in German) platform will underpin all future Bentley models. This platform will incorporate aluminum meaning the very heavy curb weight of the current Bentley models is expected to drop. This platform is modular so we will see it first with a new Mulsanne model and then other models. ...Published on 10-04-2012 02:50 AM
The intake plenum and throttle body on the Porsche 3.4 liter flat-6 motors such as those in the 987 Cayman S and R is considered a point of restriction. Just how big of a restriction? Well, according to the dyno IPD (Innovative Pro Design) provided by ditching the factory plenum and 74mm throttle body for the IPD 82mm upgraded pieces gains of 20 wheel horsepower can be achieved. The dyno provided is a dyno dynamics dynograph done at Autowave. ...
