    • The BMW 328 turns 75 years old - A true classic that BMW will be vintage racing

Obviously we are not referring to the 328 as most of you know it as a 3 series model that has been offered over the past few generations. We are referring to the original 328 BMW, a sports car produced in 1936. This car was famous for winning the Mille Miglia endurance race in 1940 as well as its class in the 1939 24 hours of Le Mans. It was an advanced car for its time featuring a tubular space frame and a 1.9 liter 6 cylinder putting out a beastly 80 horsepower. This was one of the first cars that really showed how sporty and capable a BMW could be.

BMW will be racing the 328 again in a BMW classic event:

Munich /Brescia. When the BMW 328 drew up to the start line for the first time in June 1936, nobody suspected that it would soon become a legend. 75 years on BMW Classic is sending 12 examples of the 328 out on the hot-heeled dash from Brescia to Rome and back. "The Mille Miglia is the race that defines the reputation of the BMW 328 to this day," explains Karl Baumer, Director of BMW Group Classic. "That’s why, like last year, we’ve brought a record dozen examples of the BMW 328 to Italy." Lining up once again alongside the standard production cars will be the racing models, headed by the overall winner of last year’s Mille Miglia – the BMW 328 Touring Coupé. After celebrating its ‘Mille’ premiere in 2010, the long-lost BMW 328 Kamm Coupé has again been entered "out of competition" in the event. BMW Classic teams
