      Seems like these swaps are becoming more and more prevalent, eh? The difference now is in the quality of the swaps and this one would certainly qualify as quality. The S85 fits in the engine bay with no issues but the main thing is that the factory ECU is used. This means when a GT1 tool (BMW Group Tester One diagnostic and programming tool) is connected it reads the car as an E60 M5. No dyno numbers or further details from Kinetechnik who is located in Dubai in case you were wondering why you never heard of them.

        this sounds amazing, but I have one question: how does this affect handling and weight distribution?

        Well, the S54 is actually heavier than the S65 so it won't be too bad. Around an 80 pound penalty or so off the top of my head.

        s85 weighs 530 pounds, s54 weighs (not 478), that's from bmw's brochure type things on each engine. I don't think a 50-60 pound difference would ruin the handling of the car, change it sure.
        edit whoops that was the s65 weight there, anyone have reliable s54 weight data? If youre right sticky then the 530 of the s85 assuming my 478 figure was right for the s65 puts the s54 under 4xx, in which case this thing would get pretty nose heavy

        Yes, S54 is heavier than the S65 so the switch to the S85 won't even be that bad of a weight penalty in an E46.

        The S85 swap has been done in the E92 M3 and it didn't make a big difference so it should be even better in this application.

        A supercharger adds a good 40 pounds or so. The weight won't be felt if it is placed well.

        From my S65 vs. S54 article:

        the S65 is 33 pounds lighter than the S54
        I posted the weights for both here somewhere, have to find it.

        I think I need to start buying all the S85 engines I can find. Just fill up the garage.

        Well, not cheap. A used S85 will run you like $15k or so. Then labor, tuning, etc., easy $20k+.

        if you want to invest money ,buy some S85 engines, in future people will kill each other for it.

        The offset on the front wheels & tires looks all wrong to me. The swap is sweet though.

        The handling of this car is not dramatically affected, and in return of the added weight Ground Control custom made coils with a special spring rate.

        Videos will be up in a month when we get back to focusing on the E46 M3 LM, at the moment we just purchased a M5 with a 6spd and a E92...

        The swap is 95% complete with the 5% being the fit and finish (adjusting, carbon covers ect.) Custom CF intakes are being made here at KM's USA shop in Southern California and will be shipped shortly.
