M156 V8 confirmed for C63 Black Series? Reports suggest no twin turbo V8

I would take the M159 and the DCT..out of the SLS. Otherwise, not interested.

That might convince me as well. I'm sad it won't be the M157 but maybe it will be as you stated.

Probably their reasoning is that since the Black Series line is meant for the track...a normally aspirated motor is usually a better track motor than blown or turbocharged due to the linear power delivery.

I would've liked for both CLK BS and C63 BS to have at least 518 hp just as rated in the SL/S/CL classes, but ideally, these Black Series car should've all had 550+ horsepower Higher horsepower numbers is what attracts buyers and I'm not really sure why Mercedes is determined to limit many of the 63 production cars to the 507 hp limit.

Just trying to leverage more value from the M156 and keep the BS in its place in the AMG lineup?

I also heard a price of $100K kicked around, which is lower than speculated.

I think the SL65 BS is not much of a track car and the SLR was made way before they started any Black Series lineup.

But the SLR is a track car, correct?

And the SL65 still is a Black Series and it's no slouch. It is an SL afterall and the SL weighs more than the E55. By removing the folding hardtop they clearly were trying to make it more of a track car by lightening it and lowering the center of gravity.

The SLR was designed to be a supercar with supermarket convinience. So it had to be good around the race track although when compared to other cars in the same price range, it probably could've been made a little bit lighter and more responsive. But again, the regular coupe SLR was made and discontinued way before they introduced any Black Series models.

The SL65 was definitely made to be a little bit more "track friendly" than a regular SL65 but it is by no means a track car. The engine still made it nose heavy and the car was overall too bulky. While at the AMG driving academy, I asked Tommy Kendall about his personal opinion regarding the SL65 BS strictly as a track car, and he said it simply wasn't a track car. In fact, he preferred the C63 around the track than the BS. Don't get me wrong, the SL65 BS is one of my most favorite cars, but I'm speaking strictly regarding race track performance.

It is an McLarne and the SLR is an excellent track car. The reason it got the supercharged motor is because Gordon Murray said he preferred the linear power delivery for the track. So, it received the forced induction it received with the track in mind.

I will respectfully disagree as from what I have read the suspension stiff as hell and AMG focused on the track aspects with it. Sure, it's still an SL, but it is a Black Series and therefore track capable. I do find it odd that the instructor said he preferred the C63.

Regardless, NA motors are usually the best due to less complications as well as their response. What we have seen from Mercedes thus far though is no consistency regarding motors in "track worthy" cars.

Like I said, the SLR was great around the race track, but it still had a heavy automatic transmission, a bunch of electronic accessories, etc.... I don't think it came close to other competing cars that were considered more of track cars: porsche carrera GT, Koenigsegg, Enzo, etc....

I don't think we are disagreeing much Again, I'm not saying the car is bad at the track, I bet it's better than a regular SL65.... I am just not sure I would consider it a track car. And I bet it would not rank too high in the Nurbergring among others cars even ones with 100 hp less.

By the way, Tommy Kendall wasn't just the instructor.... the guy knew track cars inside and out

No, it wasn't as good ad the Enzo or Carrera GT but this was a McLaren vehicle and Gordon Murray complained a lot about the direction of the car. He emphasized the track as much as he could. Let's be honest, the SLR will spank the majority of cars out there around a track.

What are the SL65 BS ring numbers?

The SL is heavy, it is what it is. The 65 BS definitely is not out of place on a track. I think this all goes to show a Black Series can really have any motor.

We should get used to the idea of forced induction track cars from Mercedes as the future will be filled with them.

It would be nice of them to throw the M157 in. All the cars at the NY Autoshow had 'twin turbo' badges on the fenders..
