      What is CNC machining? CNC stands for computer numerical control and you see this term used often in the aftermarket automotive industry. Basically, a computer is used to design the product and this design is fed to a computer that tells the machine what to do. In this case, create a DCT oil pan out of a solid block of billet aluminum. Check out the video of the process below.

        Machines have come a long way. Can't even imagine how long it would take a human to do that by hand. If it's even possible.

        I swear, people just love talking out of their asses hahaha every CNC machine I've ever seen uses a ton of water just like that.

        Congrats on getting one step closer on this transmission build, Sticky, have you been without your M3 for all this time or do you have a spare transmission?

        his engine was/is? being rebuilt as well, so he has been without his m3 lol

        I've been without it and surviving somehow. Longer than 7 months and I'm not falling apart or running to another company or anything.

        It's a necessary sacrifice for the benefit of the community. I don't mind, people whose opinion matters to me know I have an M3 I am building, I'm comfortable with it.

        Not everyone knows all the details as a lot of guys just focus on their particular platform.

        I found this thread through a posting on M3Post....and now that post has been taken down. the work going on here is extremely beneficial and it's a real shame it's not appreciated on the other site. Seems like a lot of misinformation going on about DCTs so it only makes sense to share the intel. Oh well.

        Thanks for exploring the inner workings of DCT, makes me feel better about my choice.

        They are in the dark ages with DCT info, their own fault.

        Glad to see you in the thread, I have about a billion questions as do others.
