Well, it seems Porsche could not wait until the Frankfurt Auto Show and decided to reveal the brand new 2012 Porsche 911 early. Nothing wrong with that and we certainly do not mind. The new car looks great, sleeker, and more modern. The front really isn't all that different which is not surprising considering the uproar when Porsche goes too far switching away from the classic circular headlights. The tail looks very edgy and modern now though, definitely a step forward. The side profile is also more aggressive.

This information comes courtesy of BMWblog. They are reporting that the X1 is indefinitely postponed after speaking with sources at a BMW event. We may not get the car here until 2013 if then. There simply is very high demand for the vehicle and the original delay dealt with production capacity. Frankly, we aren't all too upset about this as the X1 is not something we were really excited about. However, we like for the US market to get all BMW vehicles. Interestingly enough, the car is for sale in Canada.

This past weekend BenzBoost members ecampbell and jrcart went for a test and tune at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dragstrip. BenzBoost was in attendance thanks to a generous invitation from ecampbell and Weistec was also present with Steve Atneyel and Michael Weiss. We were a bit a surprised that Earl (ecampbell) and Jim (jrcart) wanted to run in the middle of the summer with insanely hot temps in Vegas. When driving in, the temperature readout in our car showed 108 degrees at 6:15 PM. Not exactly weather for setting records.

Here it finally is folks, the new 2012 SLK55 AMG. The car has a 422 horsepower 5.5 liter V8 which is naturally aspirated. The motor also features cylinder deactivation technology. It would seem Mercedes did not want the SLK stepping on any of its big brothers toes so it developed this new V8 specifically for the SLK55 . Expect more details and higher resolution photos after the Frankfurt Auto Show where the SLK55 will be officially revealed but for now enjoy this first set of photos.

The GT45 wouldn't fit in the limited space that's available in the M3. We are now trying the highly recommended Precision 8285. We have a mysterious 4,500rpm rev limiter with the ProEFI that comes and goes that we can't seem to track down. There is no on-board logger so we are trying to get some other software to work on our computer so we can look at the logs. However... we downloaded the software for $30 and that software doesn't seem to let us look at the logs. Help!! So we may switch back to the AEM again to try and get some dyno numbers out of this new turbo unless ProEFI can help us get through these issues.

Congratulations to davidtm5 for his record breaking 1/4 mile run. David has an E36 with a built S52 motor running a giant GTX 42 turbo along with Bavarian Solutions cams. Car has hit in the mid 900's to the wheels (so over 1000 crank horsepower) at about 37 psi. Simply a beast and this was proven with a record setting 9.0 second 1/4 mile run in the middle of the Summer. Records just continue to fall and the bar keeps getting raised. The first 8 second 1/4 mile pass for a street BMW? Just around the corner.

Got my baseline dyno last week and went and got my tune from Eurorev/Singh autosport on fri. Car feels great..went on few runs up to 165mph and it was pulling like a freight train. I'm very happy with the tune and it drives like stock except when you stomp on it. Been modding cars long enough to know it was best to take to independent dyno shop and i'm very pleased with result. Coming from PTT, W212 E63, C 63 and E60 M5..this is by far the best and fastest car i've own! BTW this same dyno did a 2012 S63 with Performance Pkg and it was 537 rwhp and 611 tq which was published on Insideline.com. This show you the potential of the M157.

Boris, also known as djborya on the forums, has raised the bar again. He previously set overall the 60-130 in October 2010 being the first BMW to dip into the 4's for 60-130 runs. This record was later broken by Mert with a 4.49 60-130 earlier this year. We are happy to say that the bar has been raised once again and Boris has taken the record back with a 60-130 run of 4.2 seconds which was done during a 1/4 mile pass. Specs on the car are an E30 with an M3 widebody, built S52, and a gigantic 80 mm turbo among other things. Congratulations Boris!

Emanuel Pirro is a 5 times Le Mans champion. Impressive? Yes. So the guy knows a thing or two about performance cars and how they should behave. These videos from Audi have Emanuel detail the Audi R8 GT and why it's great, wait, spectacular being a more apt description. 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and a 560 horsepower tweaked 5.2 liter direct injected V10 paired to the excellent Audi chassis no doubt makes for a hell of a track car. Especially considering the weight was also dropped. Check it out, worth watching.

There were some alarming reports earlier this year that Michael Schumacher would perhaps not return to finish out his contract due to his "heart" not being into it any longer. Well, Schumacher ended the speculation by confirming he will be coming back next year which is his final year under contract. What is interesting is that Mercedes GP president Ross Brawn is the one who hinted at issues with Schumacher and Mercedes-Petronas stating Schumacher's future with the team would be evaluated later this year. That must have put pressure on Schumacher who decided during the season to return.

You should know by now the 2012 3 series is coming and that it will be referred to as the F30 generation. A lot of speculation has been taking place on how the car will look which is not really all that big of a surprise. What is a surprise is it would seem the design has now leaked out. Someone managed to snap some photos of the car basically completely undisguised and in its final form. Not the best pictures ever but they clearly show the 3 is taking styling cues from the 5 meaning subdued and restrained evolution.

ESS will be entering the competitive, expensive, and lucrative E60 and E63 M5/M6 header market. These headers were designed with the ESS supercharger in mind and will be used on the V2+ and V3 supercharger kits whenever those actually come out. RPI will be carrying these headers which is interesting as they also have a header application for the S85. The difference of course being these are new larger diameter designs with forced induction in mind while all the other headers options available currently are intended for naturally aspirated applications. No word on pricing, but likely not cheap as all S85 headers available are expensive.

This is the car that has been getting a lot of attention due to the owners erratic behavior. A fauly crank position sensor caused some issues but that has since been resolved. The vehicle put down an eye opening 630 whp and the owner describes it as being 'too powerful' as if there was such a thing. This build just goes to show having some trust in reputable vendors and tuners to resolve issues goes a long way as does a bit of patience/class. Well done Weistec and ACG!

Porsche released a press release a little while ago detailing the Porsche GT3 R 2.0 Hybrid. The new car will make its race debut on September 17 at Laguna Seca. This car is not eligible for any championship points with hybrid technology not being part of the GT class rules, Porsche plans to test the car in an ALMS race setting. It will be interesting to see how the car will do with its dual 100 horsepower electric motors powering a car that is 110 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Its predecessor of course scoring the first victory for a hybrid earlier this year.

The BMW i3 electric city car was officially unveiled last month. Audi has now decided to potentially enter the fray with their own city car, the Audi Urban. Audi's approach is a little different with a 1+1 seating configuration and aiming to be ultra light. The roof of the car slides to the rear to allow access to the inside. The concept also features 21 inch free standing wheels which we are not sure why something aiming to be super light and efficient needs large 21 inch rims. Exact specifications have not yet been provided for the motor but it is fully electric with lithium-ion power. Expect an official reveal sometime soon, maybe Frankfurt.

In an interview with Car and Driver Porsche CEO Matthias Muller confirmed that a new mid engine sports car to be positioned between the 911 and 918 is coming. Well, we know the cars in the segment Porsche is aiming at and the main rivals are the 458 Italia and the McLaren MP4-12C. It would not be surprising to see this car share a platform with whatever Lamborghini calls the Gallardo successor. The name of the car will likely be 961 which was the race car in the famous Group B based on the Porsche 959 supercar. The car may bow in as early as 2013.

What is going on at BMW? This is an unsubstantiated rumor based on a magazine that got a hold of some internal BMW documents showing the M550 diesel. This would be the first ever diesel M car. As the X in the name on the document states, this would likely be an AWD diesel variant. Not all that surprising considering an all wheel drive M5 was already confirmed. This may be the car BMW was referring to when they stated the intention to produce an all wheel drive M5 model.

These are the same pulleys that are used on all the Weistec supercharger kits. These CNC machined aluminum belt idlers are also available for all M156 based cars not just those with the supercharger kit. The factory Mercedes pulleys are plastic and have been known to have problems. For modified or even stock vehicles this billet pulley is a good solution. It is a direct bolt in replacement, $299.
