Here is the first dyno sheet for the F10 M5 courtesy of PP-P performance. They have a MAHA dyno and since this type of dyno is not prevalent in the USA we are just getting familiar with reading these graphs. The green line shows the drivetrain loss which is calculated by this dyno at 19%. Red is power and blue is torque, fairly simple. The dyno automatically corrects out the BHP using the SAE J 1349 standard and it calculated the F10 M5 as underrated putting out 573.7 horsepower. ...Published on 12-14-2011 10:49 PM
The 997.2 has a new, well price exhaust option courtesy of Sharwerks. The exhaust is made entirely out of T304 stainless. It is basically a straight through design that improves on the stock muffler, the factory cats remain in place. Completely emissions compliant and it uses the factory mounting points. Weight savings are about 8 pounds. No dyno provided or any horsepower gains claimed so this seems to be an option for a more aggressive tone more than anything else. ...Published on 12-14-2011 02:59 AM
For most of us the Audi A1 is pretty irrelevant considering that it is not sold in the USA. Even if it was, it lacks a certain masculinity to it. It just seems like way too small of a car giving it a certain cutesy factor. Well, this 4 door rendering changes that impression a bit as it makes the vehicle look a bit larger and masculine. Kind of cool and it would be an interesting Golf alternative if it was ever made. The rendering itself is pretty good although the rear door is not as clean as we would expect with part of line cutting into the fender. ...Published on 12-14-2011 02:12 AM
The BMW S1000RR is a ridiculously fast bike. BMW raised the bar with their offering and it is routinely praised as one of the best the world has to offer. Now a bike like that usually has nothing to fear from a car, even one offering tremendous power like the F10 M5. The thing is, AutoExpress is located in the UK. Why does that matter? Because like almost every British comparison video it is done in the wet. The S1000RR is even given a 10 second head start due to the conditions. Watch the video to see what happens. ...Published on 12-13-2011 11:00 PM
Well, that was fast. Techart already has their Type I Aero Kit for the 991 available for purchase but the full reveal will not be until Geneva. For now, we just get teased. Techart Formula III lightweight wheels are available in 20 and 21 inch sizes for the 991. Techat has their exhaust available as well with either overlapping tips or dual round tips. Expect much more to come for the 991 shortly and especially when the Geneva show rolls around. ...Published on 12-13-2011 10:30 PM
Well, hot on the heels of the SL leak we now have official photos from Mercedes. So, what do you think about the styling? There has already been some debate on the forums regarding the looks. Is it enough of a change? Too mild? The car certainly looks good and has a lot of CLS inspiration in its lightning. The new SL is going to be much more fun to drive with less weight and more power from turbocharged V8's. Let the debate on the styling rage. ...Published on 12-13-2011 03:51 PM
If you guys have not heard of Velos Designwerks definitely get accustomed to the name, you are going to be hearing it frequently. Velos is the new project of Omar Murray (formerly of Active Autowerke) along with several other key individuals in the aftermarket automotive industry. This is their M157 tune and the results are impressive with gains of 94 horsepower to the wheels along with 126 wheel torque. We are sourcing a larger dynojet graph than what is shown which should be posted shortly. ...Published on 12-13-2011 07:21 AM
We would like to welcome our newest vendor, VAC Motorsports. Many of you are already familiar with VAC but for those that are not here is some info on who they are. Porsche is returning to the big boy class in Le Mans to challenge for the overall victory with an LMP-1 effort. For those unfamiliar, Porsche is the winningest manufacturer in LeMans history with 16 overall 24 Hours of Le Mans wins. This video from Porsche is a reminder as to just how great they have been in competitive racing at Le Mans. Oh, and a piece of trivia, Le Mans is the reason Porsches have their ignition on the left of the steering wheel and not the right. Seems fitting for Porsche to compete for the overall prize. ...Published on 12-12-2011 09:51 PM
Well, thanks to the internet we get to see another new model early before its official debut. Here is the official 2013 R231 Mercedes SL. These are not the best pictures but we'll take what we can get. The design isn't all that revolutionary and is clearly inspired by the new CLS. Frankly, the update is a bit mild and the R230 SL won't look outdated by the new car. The main changes seem to be under the hood and with the chassis which will drop the weight of the car by around 300 pounds. ...Published on 12-12-2011 08:32 PM
Here it is ladies and gentlemen, 10 seconds boost only. And not just barely breaking into the 10's but getting close to mid 10's. What changed since the last time out for this car which set the boost only record? Launch control used with Mickey Thompson ET Streets. The 60 foot record was obliterated with the first 1.6x at 1.63. A major improvement over the previous 1.776. For those wondering if launch control is the way to go at the strip, this should be definitive proof. ...Published on 12-12-2011 06:26 AM
Good news scooter fans, BMW will be bringing two scooters to the USA in 2012. The first one is the sporty oriented C600. The second is a touring model, the C650 GT. The Vice President of BMW Motorrad USA when asked on how the scooters will do in the American market stated the US is, "a step in the dark." Both scooters have 647-cc engines putting out 60 horsepower. Pricing is expected in the $10,000 range when the scooters go on sale as 2013 models next fall. ...Published on 12-12-2011 02:58 AM
We like seeing diesels get modification attention. AWE Tuning released their exhaust at a very reasonable $359.96. It is available with two different 90mm slash cut tips in silver and black diamond ($404.96). The exhaust offers weight savings of 7.5 pounds over the stock exhaust and features T304 stainless tubing. No word on any horsepower gains but this seems to be mostly just for sound to add some aggression. ...Published on 12-12-2011 12:31 AM
Now what is wrong with this picture? We have four very fast sports sedans here. All of them have forced induction except for 1. All of them are the most powerful available from the respective manufacturer except for one. Which one is at a disadvantage? The Porsche Panamera S which does not have turbos or a supercharger and is outgunned by the 3 models in the Panamera lineup: the Panamera GTS, Panamara Turbo, and Panamera Turbo S. ...Published on 12-11-2011 07:23 PM
The BMW 6 series Gran Coupe 650i will have 450 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. This is 50 more horses than the standard 650i coupe. The N63 V8 was revised for duty in the heavier Gran Coupe but we do not know what changes were made. It will be interesting to see if it is software only or if there are hardware changes which no doubt many 650i, 550i, X5 xDrive50i, and X6 xDrive50i owners will be interested in retrofitting. ...Published on 12-11-2011 07:42 AM
And the records continue to be broken in the cold Winter weather! Congratulations to BenzBoost member lowprofile for raising the bar for the W211 E55 platform. At MIR (Maryland International Raceway) he was able to run a 10.59@130. This is the quickest ET achieved to date although not the fastest trap achieved on the platform but there is some controversy over the accuracy of the recorded record trap. ...Published on 12-11-2011 07:21 AM
Well here it is, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. The final product is... stunning. The car will come in two flavors initially with the 640i and 650i. All wheel drive is likely to be an option but it is unknown if it will be available for both motors. The interior of the car is especially striking with BMW simply doing a great job on the interior. There is far more leg room offered by the Gran Coupe by virtue of it using the F10 wheelbase. It will go on sale in late 2012, pricing yet to be announced. ...Published on 12-10-2011 10:01 PM
Congratulations to Audi for winning this award! This would make the third straight time the Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 has won this award. A very, very nice run. Audi trails BMW and General Motors however for overall wins and Audi's wins do include Volkswagen as well. Audi is ahead of Ford, Nissan, Mercedes, Porsche, and several other distinguished competitors. Direct injection and forced induction are starting to dominate this ward which obviously does not take performance or the aftermarket into account. ...Published on 12-10-2011 09:49 PM
PP-P Performance put up a dyno vide of the new F10 M5 on their dyno dynamics. The car put down 444 horsepower to the wheels (we are trying to get the graph) and PP-P based on their baseline corrected this out to 573 horsepower. Is the M5 putting out more than the 560 horsepower BMW rated it at? We would think it pretty much has to as the X5M with all wheel drive, less boost, and lower compression is rated at 555 horsepower. The F10 M5 routing its power to the rear wheels through a more efficient dual clutch drivetrain with more boost is likely much stronger. This dyno run is just the first solid evidence we have to prove it. ...Published on 12-10-2011 06:52 AM
The new N20 4 cylinder has not even made it into the 3 series yet it is already winning awards. Offered in the F10 528 and Z4 sDrive 28i the motor is getting tons of praise from just about everyone. The BMW N55 also made the list for the second year in a row. This brings BMW's total number of times to receive this award at 33, more than any other manufacturer. The real test though will be to see if the N20 is recognized by the International Engine of the Year awards. Definitely a good start for this motor. ...
