Took a few hours today to do some N20 dyno testing and tuning. For those that have been living under a rock for the past few months the N20 is a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo and motors replaces the N52 motor used in the 328i, among other cars. We only have around 200 miles on the car but so far first impressions are very positive. Compared to the previous 328i N52 motor the N20 is much more responsive and has excellent low end torque characteristics. In addition it has much more power to redline. It also delivers better fuel economy. In short, it really blows the N52 away in all categories. Below is an N52 vs. N20 dyno comparison. ...Published on 04-10-2012 08:00 AM
We figured a Cayenne GTS would come with the 958 generation. They did it with the previous generation and with the launch of a Panamera GTS it only seemed natural the Cayenne would get the same treatment. The leak comes courtesy of Porsche themselves through their customer magazine, Christophorus. The pictures here are screenshots from the downloadable version of the magazine although it seems they were put up hastily as the displacement listed on the specs of the V6 model put up next to the GTS to compare is listed incorrectly. As far as the specs of the GTS are concerned, expect it to mirror the Panamera GTS with the V8 receiving tweaks but it also appears to be getting a shorter final drive. More to come soon as it is officially unveiled. ...Published on 04-10-2012 06:54 AM
We have reached and passed our first major milestone, the 10,000 member mark. GermanBoost would like to thank all our vendors and users for their support in making this happen and making it happen so quickly as well. We have passed several forums on the way here and now have definitively established ourselves as a legitimate alternative to the corporate automotive forums. One that puts the German performance automobile enthusiast first. With a base of 10,000 members (and growing!) it is clear that we are not going anywhere anytime soon. ...Published on 04-10-2012 06:00 AM
Wesitec recently released their M157 tune and here we get to see it in some real world action. The CLS63 AMG straight up destroys the C63 AMG and this is not much of a race. The CLS just puts bus lengths on the C63 practically instantly. In the defense of the C63, the Powerchip tune is one of the weakest available for the M156 platform and rumors are that Powerchip is not even a functioning business any longer (more on this at another date). The Weistec tuned car is so strong though that it really would not matter what tune the C63 was running although it would have at least been a better fight with a different tuning option. ...Published on 04-10-2012 04:06 AM
Now, the NSX here clearly has a lot of power. It is a twin turbo car with a claimed 700 horsepower. The Porsche 997.2 Turbo S is bone stock. The NSX is clearly hard to launch as in the first race the car goes sideways with the driver almost losing it. In the second race the NSX driver appears asleep at the line with a very poor reaction time but his elapsed time just bests the 911 Turbo. The NSX is the faster car with a 181.2 MPH trap speed to the 177.8 of the 911 turbo. All the 911 Turbo needs is a tune to surpass the NSX though making the NSX barely edging a stock 997.2 Turbo S not all that impressive especially for the horsepower claimed. ...Published on 04-10-2012 01:34 AM
We are going to be seeing many more M156 versus M157 comparisons as more and more owners of both of these motors modify them. This is a great race but obviously the M159 (based on the M156) V8 in the SLS AMG is at a power disadvantage versus the factory twin turbo M157 motor. The SLS holds off the CLS 63 AMG early on thanks in part to its quick shifting transmission but eventually the power of the ecu tuned CLS 63 AMG shows up top and it walks away. The SLS only has a full Supersprint exhaust so it does quite well considering the horsepower and torque disparity. If the SLS had some boost as well, say from a Weistec supercharger, the result would likely be quite different and in the favor the SLS. ...Published on 04-09-2012 10:46 PM
GIAC has released their software for USA Audi TT-RS vehicles. Depending on the octane gains range from 30 horsepower at the wheels on 91 octane up to 69 horses at all four wheels on race gas. Maps suited to your octane are available and can be switched using a hand held flash loader. The vehicle shown in the dyno graph below is a 6 speed manual as all USA TT-RS' are. In addition to the horsepower gains throttle maps are changed, the low speed torque limiter is removed, and the speed limiter is removed. Stage II software from GIAC is coming up next. ...Published on 04-09-2012 09:41 PM
Introducing the Speedart SP91-R 425 package for the new Porsche 991. It includes wheels, an aero package, exhaust, and ECU tune. The aero package consists of a front spoiler, side skirts, rear wing, and diffuser. Performance upgrades include an exhaust and ECU tune. The tune boosts power for the 991 Carrera S by 25 horses hence the name of the package being 425. As usual, no dyno graph or performance numbers are provided to support the gains and this is why we do not like European tuners who live more off their name than the results of their tuning package. ...Published on 04-09-2012 09:29 PM
The X5M is very quick for an SUV namely when going from a stop. The 2011 Corvette Gran Sport with the LS3 6.2 liter V8 is hardly a slouch either and obviously much, much lighter. The all wheel drive and automatic make the X5M fairly nasty out of the hole and it is much easier to launch than this 6 speed vette. The race goes exactly as it should with the X5 getting the better 60 foot and establishing a lead out of the hole with a 1.78 60 foot compared to the 2.12 of the C6 and it manages to hold off the vette with a 12.3@111 versus a 12.7@112. With a better launch the C6 would take this race although it is close which certainly shows how impressive the X5M is. ...Published on 04-07-2012 04:10 AM

Good news for F30 owners who already have suspension options courtesy of Eibach. The first and likely most popular component will be their lowering springs. The springs offer a drop of approximately 30mm. For a more aggressive look 5mm spacers are also available. The coil-overs are still under development but feature Eibach springs mated to Bilstein shocks. The two coil-over options are the B12 Pro-Kit and B12 Sportline. The Sportline springs offer a more aggressive drop and ride. ...Published on 04-05-2012 11:31 PM
With rapper Tyga sporting an R8 and now Lady Gaga we have to wonder if the R8 is becoming far too mainstream. The main difference though between Gaga's R8 and Tyga's is that Lady Gaga had the balls to get the V10. Let that comment sink in. This is one of those times where we appreciate stick only cars that stay out of celebrities hands like the Porsche GT3 or Porsche GT2. You won't be seeing a rapper or Britney Spears driving one of those any time soon as you actually have to drive the car rather than be driven. ...Published on 04-05-2012 10:31 PM
All good things must eventually come to an end. PorscheBoost salutes the life of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche who passed away today in Austria at the age of 76. Engineering was in his blood as his grandfather, who some of you may know as Ferdinand Porsche senior, created the Volkswagen Beetle. His father, Ferry Porsche, founded the sportscar company using his last name that we all know today. Not a bad automotive lineage to say the least. ...Published on 04-05-2012 10:25 PM
Vorsteiner continues to expand their lineup to encompass just about everything in the high end European scene. Many are familiar with their take on the W204 C63 sedan and they have now released their offering for the W204 C63 AMG coupe. The parts (which will be available for purchase in the summer of this year) consist of front spoiler add-on, side skirts, trunk spoiler, badgeless grille, and a rear diffuser. The end result looks great (and arguably better) than their take on the sedan. Well done Vorsteiner, well done. ...Published on 04-05-2012 05:12 AM
This is the Hamann body kit for the F12 BMW 6 Series. Hamann as of late has been bit too aggressive but these parts seem to work with the new BMW 6 well. The parts include a new front bumper with integrated LED's (everyone seems to be doing LED's), side skirts, spoiler, and rear bumper designed to show off the Hamann exhaust tips. Hamann 21 inch wheels with 255/30/21 front tires and 295/25/21 rear tires. Overall, pretty well done exterior and interior offering by Hamann. ...Published on 04-05-2012 02:46 AM
Weistec Engineering has released their M157 tune for Mercedes 63 AMG vehicles. The tune adds an incredible 149 wheel horsepower and 193 wheel torque. These gains come on 91 octane and to this point nobody has shown more horsepower on 91 octane pump gas tune only on the M157 platform. In addition to the horsepower gains the top speed limiter is removed, throttle maps are changed for better response, and boost, fuel, and spark are all adjusted. Check out the product page to order or for more info: http://weistec.com/m157s1.html ...Published on 04-05-2012 12:36 AM
Here is our take on the upcoming 2014 991 GT3. From what we know so far it looks like the PDK transmission is going to win out over the manual. The engine will likely be a 3.8 or 4.0 liter although most reports seem to be leaning toward 3.8 which means a 4.0 would likely come in an RS version. Expect no less than 470 horsepower for the new GT3. Thanks to our graphic design artist Wild-Speed who did his usual amazing work with the renderings, check them out below. ...Published on 04-03-2012 10:09 PM
Here are some dyno graphs from the HPF M3 back on 10/21/2011 with the Precision 8285. The results would have been a bit higher had we run standard rear tires. The rear tires we were running are the big tall heavy 345s on 13" wide wheels. These runs were at 30psi. We were definitely running into a flow restriction in the Steed Speed turbo manifold after 1,000rwhp and we can't run the HPF cast version because it can't be installed in two sections which make it possible to fit the 8285 without removing the engine. ...Published on 04-03-2012 09:40 PM
Teams are in a huge fuss this year over how Mercedes designed their rear wing believing it is not legal and giving Mercedes-Petronas an unfair advantage. The results do not show a big advantage for Mercedes thus far but the FIA is being pressured into assessing the design and ruling on whether it is fair or foul. Now, Mercedes built the wing system with approval from the FIA to begin with so where is the beef? We think Mercedes should be applauded for their ingenuity and if other teams have an issue with it they should start working on their own design. ...Published on 04-03-2012 09:22 PM
It was only a matter of time before the Cayenne got a diesel option in the USA especially considering the Touareg has been sporting a diesel engine for some time now. The Porsche version is slightly tweaked offering 15 more horses for a total of 240. Mileage is at 20/28 allowing travel up to 740 miles on a single tank which certainly is nice. At $55,570 it is not cheap but we are glad the option is available. Full press release below. ...
