Now we hope the real thing changes significantly once it reaches production. The test mule was spotted and photographed as you see here. The Macan looks like a Cayenne was squished in these photos. The front and rear are very similar although the rear lights on the Macan appear to be much larger. The side profile after the A-pillar shows a large design change giving the vehicle somewhat of a BMW X6 side profile. ...Published on 05-12-2012 10:03 PM
We are pulling for Rosberg after he achieved a victory for Mercedes earlier this year. Mercedes looks much improved and we would be lying if we did not want to see Schumacher show his vintage self. The major news from qualifying is that Lewis Hamilton took the pole only to be excluded when his car was found to have less than the allowable minimum fuel amount. Hamilton loses the pole and will be starting instead from the back of the pack. Maldonado is moved up to the pole from second below. ...Published on 05-12-2012 09:54 PM
This car should never have been taken out of the US lineup. The 5 Series GT was simply not the answer for people who wanted a wagon, the sales figures supported that. Unfortunately, it will be a year long wait before we have this car as it will go on sale in Spring of 2013. Expect the wagon to mirror F30 drivetrain choices so expect 328i and 335i models. The chances for a deal do not look good. Check out the pictures below. ...Published on 05-10-2012 10:44 PM
Now we are just going by the horsepower figures given in the video as we do not have any dynos to accompany the claims. However, they both are likely accurate due to the result of the race. The CLS63 AMG is able to hang right with the tuned Ford GT and if the race went further it looked like it could pull slightly up top. We do not know the exact list of modifications on either car but the CLS63 obviously has Renntech software and the Ford GT is likely running a pulley, exhaust, and tune from Heffner. Regardless, very impressive result for the CLS63 AMG against stout competition. ...Published on 05-10-2012 10:37 PM
The vehicle pictured here belongs to BimmerBoost user Omni who was kind enough to share the results of his ESS supercharged E39 M5 with us. Raising the boost to 9 psi with an 88mm pulley he was able to hit 516 wheel horsepower up from the 473 wheel horsepower he put down at lower boost with water-methanol injection. He is very happy with his kit and this is solid power. The only question we have to raise is how did ESS hit 501 wheel horsepower at 6 psi when actual customer dynos are showing it takes far more boost and are not able to replicate the claims? ...Published on 05-09-2012 09:07 PM
This video comes from two BenzBoost members with modified W204 C63 AMG sedans, users Mthis and JonsC63AMG. The modifications on JonsC63AMG are an OE Tuning ECU tune, everything else is stock. The C63 taping the race belongs to Mthis and has an updating OE Tuning ECU tune along with long tube headers, BMC filters, 3 inch mid pipes, and some lightweight mods. Despite a lead and jump by the C63 belonging to Jon the C63 recording showed the horsepower disparity reeling him in and passing him. Exhaust modifications clearly make a nice difference on the C63 and compliment a tune well. ...Published on 05-08-2012 06:27 AM
Many of us know that some of the most sought after headers for the S54B32 is the Supersprint Stepped Header. Supersprint's genius plan of starting with a narrow primary, then stepping up prior to the collectors in the headers were designed to optimize low-end torque and high-end power. Over the years, Supersprint designed two different variants. One that is compatible with the OEM Flanged Section 1 along with RHD E46 M3s, another that uses it's own 2.5" Slip On Section 1. ...Published on 05-08-2012 04:37 AM
This is a comparison we have been wanting to see of a supercharged M156 taking on a tuned M159 in an SLS. The SLS belongs to a BenzBoost member named SLS AMG and it features bolt on's including a tune and exhaust mods. The SL63 AMG in this video is a 2009 R230 that belongs to his brother. The car has a Stage I Weistec supercharger. Full specs including weight of the cars are below. The supercharged car is putting out more power and it wins although the SLS hangs in there very well. Maybe time to upgrade the SL to the Weistec Stage 2+ supercharger? ...Published on 05-08-2012 03:41 AM
The ECU's in the V10 R8's have made tuning the twin turbo setups difficult as it was not as simple as just bolting on what was already available for the Gallardo which shares the same motor. Development has progressed steadily and here we have a dyno video from Heffner at just 7 psi from the two Garrett GT35R turbos. The car puts down a respectably 730 wheel horsepower on stock internals up 272 wheel horsepower from the baseline of 458 to all four wheels with a Stasis exhaust. Impressive and just the beginning for the V10 R8's. ...Published on 05-07-2012 11:51 PM
The BMW DTM victory this past weekend is a big deal and BMW is not letting us forget it nor should they. It is incredibly difficult to return to a motorsport after a prolonged absence, namely one almost two decades long, and be competitive let alone achieve a victory. This BMW video covers everything from the drivers qualifying, to the race action, to the celebration afterwards. You have every right to celebrate BMW, you earned it. ...Published on 05-07-2012 11:15 PM
The 997 GT2 is a very fast car, we all know that. With 530 horsepower from its twin turbo 3.6 liter flat six and a curb weight in the 31XX range it seriously moves. The driver of this particular GT2 decides to max it out and runs it up to 343 kilometers per hour which translates to 213 miles per hour. Serious, serious speed. We do not believe this car is stock however as the Porsche quoted figure for the top speed is 204 miles per hour in addition to the video showing the driver going over the factory redline of 6750 RPM. ...Published on 05-07-2012 09:37 PM
It does not get any more dominating than this. Talk about showing the world you mean business, a 1-2-3-4 clean sweep for Audi at the 6 hour endurance race at Spa-Francorchamps. The E-tron hybrid R18's were dominating as well finishing in 2nd and 4th. This goes to show they are the real deal and hold up in an endurance race. A 6 hour race however is not quite the same as the 24 Hours of Le Mans but this does prove the E-tron cars are going to be ready to compete when the big show rolls around in June. ...Published on 05-07-2012 09:13 PM
We do not understand why the Europeans keep comparing the GT-R to the M5 as if it is relevant. We posted this magazine comparison on BenzBoost last week where the French Magazine Motorsport compared the Performance Package C218 CLS63 AMG to the F10 M5 and the Nissan GT-R. We have a video of the drag race between the M5 and the GT-R now and to put it mildly the GT-R destroys it by over a second. For the M5 to even remotely be a match from a stop versus an all wheel drive dual clutch car with launch control it needs proper drag racing rubber (drag radials) and a burnout to heat them up. The French drag race about as well as they fight. ...Published on 05-07-2012 02:41 AM
BMW narrowly, and we mean narrowly, edged out Mercedes for the sales crown in the United States last year. Mercedes ended 2011 on a strong note topping BMW in a couple months at the end of the year and they have carried that momentum into 2012. We are pleased to report Daimler has taken the overall US sales crown through this point in 2012. It is going to be a close battle as BMW had a 36, yes only 36, car lead through the first quarter. We expect this to go back and forth but we hope Mercedes does dethrone BMW as they have been doing a much better job catering to the enthusiast and also giving US fans all the limited edition Black Series Models. Good luck Benz, give em hell! ...Published on 05-07-2012 02:24 AM
As part of Fabspeed's exhaust development for the new 991 Carrera S, they get a baseline on their dynojet dyno. This is a brand new 991 Carrera S PDK with only 500 miles run on 93 octane. The vehicle is rated at 400 horsepower at the crank so this is a very nice result even with the higher drivetrain loss of a dual clutch transmission. To put it perspective, this is ~15+ wheel horsepower more than the 4.0 liter S65 V8 out of the E92 M3 will put out which is rated at 414 horsepower. Very impressive for a smaller motor (3.8 liter flat-6) with two less cylinders to be putting down this kind of power to the wheels in comparison especially when rated less at the crank. ...Published on 05-06-2012 10:42 PM
BMW taking the first and second spots in qualifying played a huge role in this race. Spengler took the pole and Augusto Farfus qualified in second allowing a dominating start for BMW. Spengler and Farfus were able to finish 1st and 3rd respectively as a result of their starting positions on the tight Lausitzring not allowing the competition to overtake them. Only Gary Paffett from Mercedes managed to pass Farfus securing a second place finish. ...Published on 05-06-2012 04:31 AM
Here is an awesome TT-RS build from AWE-Tuning. This build is displayed well with photos of all the parts involved as well as before and after dyno's. AWE Tuning chose GIAC software boosting the power from 323 at the wheels to 351. Keep in mind the baseline is with AWE Tuning cat delete pipes, exhaust, and their front mount intercooler (FMIC). Dyno graphs, photos, and details are all below. ...Published on 05-06-2012 12:00 AM
Congratulations to Bruno Spengler for capturing the pole for Sunday's DTM race at the Lausitzring. This is the first pole for BMW in 20 years. Brazilian Augusto Farfas, also racing for BMW, was only 38 thousand of a second off of Spengler's pace qualifying second and giving BMW a 1-2 start for the race. Spengler also took the pole for this race last year. Mercedes driver Gary Paffett (who won the season opener and is the points leader) will be starting in third place. Can BMW get their first win of the season and in 20 years? We will see. ...Published on 05-05-2012 11:03 PM
We are not sure why Road and Track is just getting to uploading the videos from this comparison which was done back in September of last year. Well, if a publication like Road and Track can rehash content we certainly can report it. This is the same sort of comparison as was done with the Porsche GT3 and its race car counterpart. Road and Track compared the specs between the two cars as well as laptimes. ...Published on 05-05-2012 10:22 PM
The Audi 5.2 liter V10 in the R8 is an amazing sounding motor. However, for street use, it needs to be muffled obviously. Race vehicles do not have the same restrictions and when uncorked the V10 simply sounds magical. Case and point, the APR Grand-AM V10 R8. APR had this car delivered earlier in the year and has been fielding a Grand-Am team which is impressive to say the least. Watch the onboard video below. It is music to car guys ears. ...
