There have been several conflicting reports regarding the transmission options for the upcoming Porsche 991 GT3. EVO Magazine stated the car would have 470 horsepower and a PDK trans. Our latest report on the topic stated Porsche was leaning toward offering the PDK trans and that both manual and PDK versions were undergoing testing. The video below clearly shows PDK rev matched downshifts and the lightning quick PDK upshifts. ...Published on 08-28-2012 08:11 PM
We are glad to see AMS paying more and more attention to the German performance car market. They currently are working on their twin turbo kit for the Audi R8 V10. This is currently a stock internal kit tuned on the stock ECU. Power is said to be around the 900 horsepower mark and although there is a video of the car on the dyno below no graphs were posted supporting this number. It is definitely attainable and we do not doubt AMS in hitting it. ...Published on 08-28-2012 01:21 PM
AMG will be solely responsible for Mercedes V12 development for all future models. This does not mean the V12 will disappear from the Mercedes portfolio just that AMG will be hand building the low volume motors. AMG already builds the M275, M279, and Pagani V12's for example. 600 models will not be gone from the lineup but instead will feature AMG motors without the AMG badge. ...Published on 08-28-2012 12:11 PM
Velos Designwerks recently completed an ESS VT2-625 supercharger install on an E92 M3 at their location in Florida. In the hot and humid Florida weather the car put down 567.8 wheel horsepower (we are unsure on what correction factor was used) on their dynojet dyno. We recently saw an ESS-VT2 600 which runs lower boost and a less aggressive tune put down 534 horsepower to the wheels on a dynojet with STD correction making the numbers for this higher output kit fall right inline. ...Published on 08-28-2012 11:41 AM
USP Motorsports just keeps squeezing more and more power out of their APR Stage 3+ Jetta GLI build. A little over two weeks ago we posted about them hitting 403 wheel horsepower on 93 octane pump gas. Now on 100 octane race gas they were able to raise this number to a very impressive 426 wheel horsepower. The vehicle does have forged rods which is the only internal upgrade to handle the power. ...Published on 08-27-2012 11:24 PM
The new M6 is not exactly what you would call a lightweight track car but we still expect the new M cars to be able to perform on the track. In the video below race car driver Bill Auberlin (a current BMW ALMS driver) takes the M6 for a lap around Laguna Seca passing an Alpina B7 in the process which was actually doing an admirable job holding the M6 off. Of course the M6 is able to eventually pass and show what it can do. ...Published on 08-27-2012 07:21 PM
Congratulations to Porsche, the new Carrera S is MotorTrend's best drivers car of 2012. It achieved this impressive feat against strong competition including the Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar XKR-S, Ford Shelby GT500, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, McLaren MP4-12C, Nissan GTR Black Edition, Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series, and the Subaru BRZ was invited as well for some reason. ...Published on 08-27-2012 04:45 PM
Accidents happen all the time in racing but usually it is not the pit crew which is involved. An unfortunate situation took place at this past weekends DTM Race at Zandvoort in the Netherlands (Audi ended up sweeping the podium for the race) where Ralf Schumacher was pulling out of the pits in his AMG DTM car when his spoiler caught the air hose line from another crew and dragged it with him clotheslining the pit crew to which it belonged. ...Published on 08-27-2012 02:01 PM
Here is a very, very cool project that is sponsored by BMW specialist Schmiedmann and was built for the Limmet Drift Team. The project started as a standard 1 Series that then received 1M body pieces. The engine is an S62 5.0 liter v8 out of an E39 M5 that then received a Vortech YSI supercharger. The supercharger is mounted in an interesting spot low and in front of the car. Power is said to be around the 600 horse mark. ...Published on 08-27-2012 12:11 PM
As Porsche does with every new 911 generation they have launched the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S all wheel drive models. The vehicles are available in both coupe and convertible forms. Styling changes include the wider rear bodywork as well as the strip in back connecting the rear lights. The new C4S is also a very impressive 147 pounds lighter than the previous generation model. ...Published on 08-27-2012 11:41 AM
An absolutely incredible showing by the Audi DTM teams at this past weekends race in Zandvoort which is in the Netherlands. Audi passed BMW by quite a bit who was second in the manufacturer standings following their victory at the Nurburgring. Audi picked up a whopping 68 points with this past race compared to 19 for Mercedes-Benz and 14 for BMW. Audi took 4 out of the top 5 spots in the race which is simply astounding. ...Published on 08-27-2012 11:38 AM
Volksagen officially confirmed that the next generation MkVII Golf will return 78 mpg from its 1.6 liter TDI motor. This would make it the most fuel efficient Golf ever produced and is an absolutely incredible number. What makes this level of efficiency possible is that the new Golf will be lighter and offer a lower coefficient of drag at .0274 improving by .024 on the previous generation. ...Published on 08-25-2012 01:37 PM
The dilution of the M brand and BMW turning its back on its history just continues. Car and Driver reports they have information from a source inside BMW that "is" models will no longer be offered and instead they will be replaced with the M Performance Line. Kind of a sad day for longtime BMW fans as the "is" models were very special denoting fuel injection with the i and sport with the s. ...Published on 08-24-2012 11:40 PM

We are hoping this is one rumor that comes true. The last time we discussed the awesome Quattro Concept was with an article that stated production might happen in 2013. That production outlook is now strengthened thanks to an AutoBild report that this model would be a 35th anniversary gift for Quattro. That would also mean we would not see it until 2015. 3 years of waiting is much better than it not happening at all. ...Published on 08-24-2012 09:41 PM
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest premier vendor as well as S65 V8, M157/M278 Twin Turbo V8, and N63/S63 Twin Turbo V8 engine forum sponsor Velos Designwerks. The Velos name has been gathering a lot of steam as of late with their tunes causing everyone to sit up and take notice such as their recent 550i N63 V8 Twin Turbo work which resulted in the most powerful 550i we have seen putting down 441 wheel horsepower. ...Published on 08-24-2012 07:30 PM
Well, seems the German publication Sport Bild that stated Volkswagen was contemplating entering Formula 1 was nothing more than a rumor designed to get attention. Volkswagen reiterated the report we published in April stating that their focus is on the World Rally Championship and they have no intention to enter Formula 1. VW exec Stefan Moser stated, "Nothing has changed since our last statement. We are continuing to focus on the WRC. Entering formula one is not an issue for us right now." ...Published on 08-24-2012 05:02 PM
Now this is the type of video and comparison we dream about it. If only we had MotorTrend's resources to make it happen. In what they call the "World's Greatest Drag Race 2" (which essentially is a sequel to a similar drag race they did last year that the Nissan GTR won) MotorTrend adds some big new challengers into the mix including the Lamborghini Aventador and the McLaren MP4-12C. ...Published on 08-23-2012 03:22 PM
Now some of our more astute readers might be saying hold on a second, weren't the new F10 M5 as well as the F12 M6 seen testing with carbon ceramic brakes and aren't they a factory option? Well, the answer to that would be yes but the problem is the carbon ceramic brake option is delayed until 2013 at the earliest for undisclosed reasons. G-Power took the opportunity to launch their own carbon ceramic brake kit for the new M5 (and likely the new F12 M6 as well). ...Panamera GTS and Panamera Turbo S comparison, naturally aspirated Porsche V8 versus turbo Porsche V8
Published on 08-23-2012 01:01 PM
Now this is obviously a mismatch but still cool to see. The Panamera Turbo S has a 550 horsepower 4.8 liter Twin Turbo V8 routed through a dual clutch transmission to all four wheels. The Panamera GTS has a 430 horsepower 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V8 that also is routed through a dual clutch transmission to all four wheels. Obviously the Turbo S model is going to be much faster but it is interesting to see just by how much. ...
