Despite claims from the team that the car was well suited for the Korean circuit, the team fell flat and failed to score a single point. Schumacher managed to finish in 13th place, while Rosberg was forced to retire on lap 2 after a collision with Kobayashi on the first lap into turn 3. At the start of the race, both Mercedes driver made a clean get away after going into the first turn but Rosberg gets pushed to the outside and loses a few spots. Going down the straightaway to turn three Button, Kobayashi, and Rosberg arrive at the same time. Kobayashi gets sandwiched between them and as they brake, Kobayashi hits Rosberg in his side pod damaging his radiator and then takes out Button's front right wheel. Button had to retire on the same lap, while Rosberg continued until giving up down the same straight a lap later. ...Published on 10-13-2012 11:52 PM
We know the new M5 puts out a ton of power (527 rear wheel horsepower) and is capable of running 11's in the 1/4 mile in stock form. So what gives with Insideline acceleration testing hitting basically E92 M3 level acceleration figures running a mid 12 second 1/4 mile with traction control off and a 13.8@110.6 with traction control on? ...Published on 10-13-2012 05:18 AM
Mercedes had a better qualifying session that last week in Japan. Nico Rosberg was able to grab 9th and Schumacher 10th. The car looked fairly stronger and more well suited for the Korean track. They easily made it into Q3 but at the start of the third session both Mercedes drivers parked their cars near the pit lane exit and sat there. When both driver finally left the pits they chose not to set a time and went straight back to the pits. near the end of the session, they went back out and set times that were good for ninth and tenth. ...Published on 10-12-2012 07:59 PM
When the E92 M3 came out it was a stronger car than the B7 Audi RS4. Lighter, faster, stronger. Well, Audi has had plenty of time since then to respond and the response is the B8 RS5. Unfortunately, the old 4.2 FSI even with a few tweaks and combined with a dual clutch transmission still isn't quite enough to best the now 4+ year old E92 M3. ...Published on 10-12-2012 07:21 PM
The P31 Package for the W204 C63 AMG gives the 6.2 liter AMG V8 motor stronger internals, more horsepower, and a more aggressive tune. The tune is so aggressive some tuners have been accused of simply re-selling it to standard C63 owners. Additionally, getting more power out of P31 cars has proven difficult with scarcely any positive gains posted to this point. ...Published on 10-12-2012 05:55 PM
This comes to us from BimmerBoost sponsor Burger Tuning (BMS) who decided to put together a few dyno charts showing the difference between the stock N54 twin turbochargers maxed out, upgraded twin turbos, and the single turbo conversion. These all come from a E9X 335i with an automatic transmisison. As one would expect, the single turbo shifts the powerband to the right making for more peak horsepower but less torque through the entire curve and down low compared to the upgraded twins. ...Published on 10-12-2012 02:40 PM
This one was not hard to see coming. With the existence of a Panamera Turbo S sharing a similar motor and the previous generation Cayenne Turbo S it was only natural for Porsche to give the new 958 generation Cayenne the Turbo S treatment. This bumps the Cayenne up from the 500 horsepower of the Turbo to 550 horsepower in the Turbo S. ...Published on 10-12-2012 01:52 PM
There are going to be more and more supercharged E60 M5 and E63 M6 V10 vehicles on the road now that more affordable supercharger solutions are on the market. Velos Designwerks recently installed an ESS-Tuning VT2-650 supercharger kit which uses a Vortech based unit with self-contained oiling and a water/air aftercooler. ...Published on 10-12-2012 02:50 AM
For 997 Carrera and Carrera S owners who want more power without trading their car in for a Turbo the only real answer to get a big boost is forced induction. VF-Engineering has had 997 supercharger kits out for a while now and here is a nice dyno overlay of a stock 997 Carrera and a VF-Engineering VF475 supercharged 997 Carrera. ...Published on 10-11-2012 11:58 PM
Mercedes decided to honor the 45th anniversary of the Mercedes SL with a special anniversary edition of the SLS AMG GT3. Quite a nice way to honor the SL and only five of these will be made making them quite rare indeed. Quite a shame if one were to be lost in a wreck during a race. Each car will get carbon fiber bodywork that is covered in magno graphite matte paint so they will all look the exact same. ...Published on 10-11-2012 07:17 PM
The 4.2 liter FSI V8 is a great motor but not exactly a tuning powerhouse platform. Unfortunately, as the motor is fairly highly stressed in stock form and routing power to all four wheels without going forced induction on the motor there is not much to gain. On 93 octane APR takes the car from 352 horsepower at all four wheels to 361 horses at all four wheels for a gain of only 9 horsepower at the wheels. ...Published on 10-11-2012 05:52 PM
The 458 is light, fast, and has a dual clutch transmission. Not an easy car to beat and owners of the car probably never think they will lose to a BMW designed in the 80's. Well, this turbo E30 with a 2.8 liter running E85 quite simply pulls away from the Italia like its standing still. In the race the Italia gets quite a nice lead by virtue of having no lag and its dual clutch transmission quickly completing the shifts in low gears. ...Published on 10-11-2012 04:00 AM
This is a rather interesting development in the Mercedes-Benz AMG performance scene. Truth is, World Motorsports is a newer name and one not seen on BenzBoost before. A Mercedes SLS AMG Twin Turbo kit certainly is quite a way to make an entrance. They already seem to have the turbos mounted but hardware is only one part of puzzle. What about the tuning? What about the impact of the torque on the SLS dual clutch transmission? These are just some of the problems posed. ...Published on 10-11-2012 02:21 AM
Introducing the AWE-Tuning Track Edition / Switchpath catback exhaust system and Performance Downpipe for the MKVI Golf R. The catback system by itself will give about 8 peak horsepower and 6 pound-feed of peak torque. A rear section exhaust is not where one will really get big power gains and that is what the downpipe is for. It provides gains of 22 horsepower and 17 pound-feet of torque on top of a car that has the rear section and software. ...Published on 10-10-2012 11:34 PM
The new 991 generation Carrera certainly incorporates a ton of technology with its available dual clutch transmission, PASM (Porsche Active Stability Management), and PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control). MotorTrend decides to compare the new 911 to a car that is all about using technology to your advantage which is the Nissan GT-R. They ultimately come away with the feeling that the 911 is more fun to drive and that the GT-R feels artificial. Yes, the Nissan is a robot. ...Published on 10-10-2012 06:50 PM
Renntech released their Diesel software for the E90 BMW 335d as well as the E70 X5 xDrive35d both equipped with the turbo M57 diesel six-cylinder motor. Renntech provided BimmerBoost with their dyno runs and the highest baseline was chosen to display on the graph along with the peak tuned figures in SAE correction. Renntech claims gains of up to 65 crank horsepower and 54 crank pound-feet of torque. ...Published on 10-10-2012 05:24 PM
The Corvette ZR-1 is a seriously fast piece of machinery. Easily a 10 second car capable of 130+ in the 1/4 mile. The E55 in stock form is no match for it, not even close. Modified however, and things change. Yes, the ZR-1 is much lighter and mod for mod will be faster but that is not the discussion here. This is about if a modified E55 with the M113K motor and modified stock supercharger can beat the ZR-1. ...Published on 10-10-2012 01:42 AM
Canadian designer Anibal Automotive Design does some very, very over the top body kits and certainly does things different from others. Their body kit for the R8, Toxic, certainly is different from the other offerings on the market and may be considered way too over the top by some. This kit completely transforms the car and certainly will get a ton of attention if that is what someone is seeking. ...Published on 10-09-2012 10:02 PM
An in depth comparison between the AMG M157 and BMW S63TU V8 Twin Turbo motors similar to the M278 versus N63 article that BenzBoost did recently is coming. For now, let's compare the M157 and S63TU motors in stock form. Insideline did a dyno test of both motors and has a dynojet dyno overlay for us comparing the curves of both motors. What is interesting is that both hit the same peak horsepower values. ...Published on 10-09-2012 07:44 PM
The Tesla Model S is no slouch. It has run the 1/4 mile in 12.5@110 which certainly is impressive for a heavy car with 416 horsepower from its electric motor. The thing is, the new M5 makes much more horsepower and is capable of 120 mile per hour trap speeds stock. IND recently ran 11.9@119.5 in the 1/4 mile on street tires meaning on paper this is quite a mismatch and the Tesla Model S simply can not win. ...
