Here it is after months of teasing, the official new Porsche Cayman. Porsche did a pretty good job keeping the official car from being leaked for as long as they did. Well, it's here and the car is beautiful and just as expected. The design is much more masculine than the previous generation. It generated considerable attention and the Porsche hall was packed. Additionally, Porsche as usual had the best food and drink selection of any manufacturer at the show treating their guests in style. ...Published on 11-27-2012 06:44 PM
Audi continues to rack up impressive magazine comparison victories this time in the "4-door coupe" segment versus the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe. In the January 2013 issue of Road and Track they pick the A7 over its rivals which they made sure to equip with all wheel drive. Interestingly, the Audi was the quickest through the 1/4 mile but the Mercedes was right there with it in trap speed at 111. The BMW was slower than either even with the updated N63 V8 sporting 445 horses. ...Published on 11-27-2012 06:22 PM
The official reveal is not until tomorrow at the Los Angeles International Auto Show (PorscheBoost will be in attendance taking plenty of photos) but a French magazine leaked out an image early. It is only a photo of the front of the car but still it gives a nice idea of the final design. Nothing all too surprising, the car looks as expected. A nice little teaser until the web is flooded with photos of the real deal tomorrow. ...Published on 11-27-2012 05:41 PM
We all know the next generation F80 M3 is coming with a turbocharged inline-6 motor. What we did not know is whether ethanol compatibility would be something that BMW would test or consider. Ethanol is becoming very popular with owners of the N54 direct injected 3.0 liter twin turbo inline-6 used in the E82 135 and E9X 335 models. The fuel makes quite a difference especially in a direct injected application like what the new M3/M4 will be. ...Published on 11-27-2012 04:20 PM
In stock from the Cadillac CTS-V with its supercharged 6.2 liter LSA V8 is stronger than the standard C63 AMG (one without the P31 package). The difference on a dynojet is about ~100 wheel horsepower. The C63 is slightly lighter but is significantly detuned in stock form to protect the egos of the owners of the other 63 AMG models. With a tune however the C63 wakes up considerably as the video shows with the two cars basically neck and neck. ...Published on 11-27-2012 12:02 PM
BMW decided to leak their new "i" model early and here we have the coupe version of the i3. The coupe shares the same 170 horsepower and 1874 pound-feet of torque motor with the standard i3. All of this is routed through a single speed transmission to the rear wheels. Going to a coupe definitely improves the i3's looks and makes it look much sportier. The wheelbase for the two vehicles remains the exact same. ...Published on 11-26-2012 07:40 PM
The Audi A3 sedan is on its way. As is the Mercedes-Benz CLA which will also come in CLA 45 AMG form. Both of these vehicles will feature 2.0 liter direct injected and turbocharged motors with all wheel drive and dual clutch options. This segment is heating up but where is BMW's answer? The current F20 1-Series is not sold in the USA and the platform would likely return to North America as a 2-Series sedan due to BMW's belief (like most German manufacturers) that the American market does not want hatchbacks. ...Published on 11-26-2012 05:31 PM
Automotive sites are paying a lot of attention to these pictures from Regular Exclusive and AudiBoost isn't quite as thrilled. Why? Well, several reasons. Regula Exclusive is a German designer who is brand new without any photos of this kit on an actual car. These are just renderings so why are people treating these like a real product? Body kit manufacturers need to get out of the habit of releasing renderings as if they are the real thing. ...Published on 11-26-2012 05:11 PM
Congratulations yet again to VWBoost member pattrick02 for his 2.0 TSI world record 1/4 mile run. Just recently he ran a 11.7@121 1/4 mile. He improved upon this with an 11.49 elapsed time. The vehicle is a MKVI Jetta GLI with a modified APR Stage 3+ kit. The 11.49 run makes for a new world record for the quickest 2.0 TSI motor. The fuel system is modified by USP Motorsports with modified high and low pressure fuel pumps. ...Published on 11-26-2012 04:03 PM
Many say Porsche option prices are way too expensive. This certainly is true but on the bright side Porsche offers a myriad of options for a buyer to tailor their Porsche perfectly to their wishes. If the standard options are not enough Porsche even offers the Tequipment catalog. Owners can further customize their cars with these cars after delivery so the parts can be purchased one by one if an owner so desires. ...Published on 11-26-2012 12:32 PM
The BMW E60 M5 in stock form is stronger than the new twin turbo 550 models from Mercedes and its strength really is the top end. Well, the new Twin Turbo motors are changing the game as this video shows as with a tune the M278 V8 is not only on par with an S85 V10 but one that also is tuned. Turbos definitely make that possible. In stock form the M278 puts out about 40 less wheel horsepower than the BMW S85 V10 which is in the 420 wheel horsepower range stock. ...Published on 11-26-2012 01:55 AM
Wow, quite simply, wow. Eye opening numbers to say the least from the 996 Turbo platform. 1288 rear wheel horsepower at 31 psi of boost on what is obviously a built motor sporting some nicely sized twin turbos. The numbers are uncorrected but absolutely incredible regardless. This is the highest output PorscheBoost has come across for a 996 Turbo which had a dynojet graph to back it up. Engine management is done with a Motec standalone. ...Published on 11-25-2012 09:58 PM
It's a wrap, the 2012 Formula 1 season is officially in the record books. A bittersweet season for Mercedes fans who had some moments to be proud of with Nico Rosberg scoring a victory but also learning that Michael Schumacher would be retiring from the sport. Overall, a disappointing season for Mercedes who finishes in fifth place way behind winner Red Bull Racing by a whopping 318 points. ...Published on 11-25-2012 02:30 PM
Audi blew everyone away with the A3 Sedan Concept which sported a 408 horsepower version of the TT-RS 2.5 liter inline-5 cylinder motor routed through a dual clutch trans to all four wheels. This car was the closest thing Audi had produced to the B5 S4 in quite some time. Well, the A3 sedan is coming as the spyphotos below clearly show and hopefully with it comes a high performance RS3 version exactly like the concept. ...Published on 11-25-2012 11:43 AM
Active Autowerke continues to update their E9X M3 supercharger kits and what you see here is the latest Generation II Level III setup. This updated kit features a Rotrex C38-92 supercharger pushing 9.5 psi on the stock internals with methanol injection and HKS iridium spark plugs. The result is 589.4 wheel horsepower and 378 pound-feet of wheel torque in SAE correction with 0 smoothing. The curve is jaw-dropping buttery smooth. ...Published on 11-24-2012 11:50 PM
Congratulations to USP Motorsports on yet another record. These guys are raising the bar all over the place in the Volkswagen and Audi high performance scene. This MKIV Jetta GLI previously ran a 10.89 in the 1/4 mile and on its latest trip to the strip managed to improve this elapsed time to 10.63@139 miles per hour. Very impressive for a 1.8 liter turbocharged four cylinder engine and making this the quickest and fastest MKIV Jetta. ...Published on 11-24-2012 06:51 PM
The SLS AMG and Ferrari 458 are both aimed toward a similar demographic and share some notable similarities. Both are powered by naturally aspirated V8's sending their power to the rear wheels through dual clutch transmissions. The Ferrari has a mid-engine layout however versus the front engine Mercedes and this being a Spyder it is a little heavier than the 458 coupe (about 110 pounds). Even with the additional weight the 458 Spyder still undercuts the SLS AMG by about 250 pounds. ...Published on 11-24-2012 01:30 PM
1000 kilograms is 2204 pounds. This is exactly the amount Audi is targeting for a lightweight, high performance model of the next generation Audi TT. Lofty goal? Absolutely, but they seem serious about it. The new Audi head of technical development Wolfgang Durheimer is setting the bar very high, “A car in the TT segment weighing 1,000kg would be a very interesting proposition. It would be a derivative of the TT and the challenge is to make it a quattro too – that’s what I’ve asked my engineers.” ...Published on 11-24-2012 01:00 PM
It seems difficult to even believe but BMW is buying into front wheel drive big time. Why? Money of course, as the front wheel drive platform is tentatively planned to spawn 20 model variants. Currently they are approved for about half this amount but want to squeeze in as much as they can out of the platform whether it has a Mini or BMW badge on it. Kind of sad for the BMW purist but ultimately BMW just wants to sell, sell, sell these days. ...Published on 11-23-2012 10:30 PM
This race definitely puts in perspective how big of a difference over 200 wheel horsepower is in practice even with high powered cars. The 996 Turbo in the video belongs to GermanBoost member prodigymb. In the video he launches on the GTR and has a substantial lead as the GTR simply rolls into the throttle from a stop. The 996 Turbo is a quick car with about 800 wheel horsepower with upgraded turbochargers tuned with E85 fuel. ...
