Congratulations to BMW who continues to rack up engine awards and deservedly so. The new N20 4-cylinder 2.0 liter direct injected turbo motor makes the list for the first time. The BMW N55 (replacement to the N54) single turbo 3.0 liter direct injected and turbocharged six-cylinder makes the list for the second straight year. The Ward's competition differs from the International Engine of the Year award in that only 10 engines are chosen and the price is capped at $55,000 for the cars the engine must appear in. ...Published on 12-14-2012 10:00 AM
Here are more pictures and details of the facelifted 2014 W212 E-Class Mercedes-Benz. Engine choices remain pretty much the same but there are a couple notable changes. The E250 Bluetec Diesel model is now available with 4Matic all wheel drive. The lineup also gains an E400 Hybrid model which features a 3.5 liter V6 with 302 horsepower and an electric motor good for another 27 horsepower for a total of 329. ...Published on 12-14-2012 09:52 AM
Very impressive race here showcasing just how quick a K04 upgraded B5 S5 can be. The 2013 Nissan GTR in stock form obviously is a very fast vehicle as we all know. The B5 S4 is a much older car with a smaller motor but one that responds very well to upgrades. A K04 upgrade is relatively cheap and easy for the B5 S4 and with a good tune it can be quite formidable as the run in the video below with the GTR shows. ...Published on 12-13-2012 08:02 PM
Here is a roll on race at the air strip featuring an E46 M3 with an HPF (Horsepower Freaks) Stage 2.5 turbo kit putting out 700 wheel horsepower versus a 997 Twin Turbo that is modified and who owner is claiming puts out 685 horsepower at the wheels. The E46 M3 beats the 997TT down pretty easily so it leaves one wondering if the Porsche is really putting out the power the owner is claiming. In all fairness to the 997TT though the E46 does appear to get a sizable jump. ...Published on 12-13-2012 10:00 AM
Happy Holidays from BimmerBoost.com and all the GermanBoost Network sites. BimmerBoost would like to thank its users for their support and the strong community built here that continues to rapidly expand. It is no secret this is now the main site for technical BMW information as well as high performance modification thanks to the most knowledgeable and experienced userbase in the BMW forum sphere. Quite simply, BimmerBoost has evolved into the top performance/modification community in the BMW world and the rest of the GermanBoost network is following suit. ...Published on 12-13-2012 08:07 AM
Wow, quite simply, wow. The new ML550 is incredibly quick hustling its 5197 pounds to the tune of a 13.4@106 1/4 mile. This is basically the same acceleration once seen from the BMW E46 M3 as well as the C32 AMG. The idea of a heavy SUV accelerating like an AMG sport sedan was unheard of just several years ago, how times have changed. As a reminder, this is the 550 version and not even the 63 AMG which will be even more of a beast. ...Published on 12-13-2012 07:31 AM
More information continues to trickle out on the upcoming Audi R10 Diesel Hybrid Supercar. As reported earlier, the vehicle will incorporate technology from Audi's Le Mans winning R18 diesel race cars. Early reports suggest the drivetrain will offer horsepower in the 700 range with torque at 740 pound-feet. Big numbers and if combined with a carbon fiber body along with aluminum chassis to keep weight down this thing will simply fly. ...Published on 12-12-2012 09:48 PM
COBB is extremely happy to announce the release of the AccessPORT for the N55 powered 2011 BMW 135, 335i and 335xi. We have been cranking extremely hard to get this out – with our best engineers working on making this a terrific product. This is a Beta release – which means that although the support and tuning are 100% complete and, frankly, awesome – we don’t support every single ROM on the road right now. As most of you know (but your friends might not), a ROM is an individual calibration file that makes small tweaks to the Engine Control Unit from the factory. ...Published on 12-12-2012 09:43 PM
The Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 is an incredible motor certainly worthy of the awards it receives. The motor won a very impressive 4th straight Ward's 10 Best Engine title. The executive editor of Ward's Auto stated, ""It's hard these days for engines to stay on our list for two or three years, but the Audi S5's 3.0L supercharged V6 has managed four straight years, and it does so with stunning grace and power. This engine does everything well -- it's quiet at idle and potent when prodded -- in a number of vehicle applications." ...Published on 12-12-2012 08:21 PM
This is an interesting matchup between two cars with similar sized and turbocharged four cylinder motors. The main difference here being that the GTI has front wheel drive and the Evo 8 is an all wheel drive vehicle. The front wheel drive layout of the GTI actually helps it in this race despite its smaller turbo due to lower drivetrain losses as it is able to pull the Mitsubishi Evo in a couple of the videos although it is very close between the two. ...Published on 12-12-2012 05:43 PM
Here is the M version of BMW's "four door coupe" the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe features the same 560 horsepower S63tu powerplant as the BMW M5 and M6. A dual clutch transmission is standard and a manual may be optional although is not mentioned at this time. Unfortunately the press release does not contain any of the important details such as the curb weight of the car or the price. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:32 PM
Ok, so here is the new 2-Series which will use the F22 and F23 chassis designations. The new F20 1-Series did not come to the United States being a hatchback, which also means no new 1M, but the 2-Series is set to fill that void. Make sense? Good. So the 2-Series will have a convertible variant and a coupe. The drivetrain will be shared with the the F20 1-Series meaning 28i and 35i models using the N20 and N55 motors. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:08 PM
Here is a rendering of the upcoming W205 generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The car is expected to take on some styling cues from the newer models including the R231 SL as can bee seen in the headlights. It remains to be seen how accurate this rendering is but if the final product is similar Mercedes will have a hit on their hands. The main interesting development especially for AMG performance enthusiasts is the idea of all wheel drive on the C63 AMG. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:06 PM
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept is supposed to point to future Porsche styling directions. Porsche is pushing this concept very hard and here is yet another piece of media showing the car off. This design direction is important as the new Porsche models such as the Macan will be borrowing from it. Beyond the styling, the drivetrain is based on a hybrid setup which also will be a staple of future Porsche models. ...Published on 12-11-2012 09:25 AM
No surprise the new W212 E-Class facelift was leaked early onto the internet before its official Detroit debut. The leak comes from an unknown European source showing the European model. The images are fairly low resolution but still reveal the majority of the design details. Obviously the largest change is to the headlights which ditch the classic separated look for a single headlight that attempts to mimic the angles of the old separated look somewhat. ...Published on 12-11-2012 06:32 AM
BimmerBoost would like to thank member GeorgiaTech335Coupe for his openness and honesty regarding his Vishnu/FFTEC single turbo setup. Recently, this member took his single turbo upgraded 6-speed manual 335i to the PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) dragstrip in Florida to do some testing. His best run was a 12.50@121.6 alongside a 12.8@117. Yes, these times are quite a ways away from the 10.8@131 glory pass from Vishnu demonstrating the kits capability. ...Published on 12-11-2012 05:41 AM
Here are spyphotos of the upcoming X156 platform GLA45 AMG. This car will mirror the drivetrain of the upcoming CLA45 AMG, B45 AMG, and A45 AMG. This means all wheel drive, a dual clutch transmission with 7-speeds, and a turbocharged M133 2.0 liter direct injected four-cylinder with an output of 354 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This car seems to be an answer to a question nobody asked. ...Published on 12-11-2012 05:10 AM
Spyphotos of the upcoming Porsche Macan entry-level SUV have shown it looking like basically a squished Porsche Cayenne. The Audi Q5 platform based SUV will apparently undergo a large redesign to differentiate it more from the Cayenne. Porsche admits the Range Rover Evoque has inspired the styling change. Straight from Porsche design chief Michael Mauer, “As the person responsible for the look of the cars, I'm not afraid to make changes. When I saw the Evoque, I thought, interesting. I like it.” ...Published on 12-11-2012 02:43 AM
Not really all that surprising that VW is axing this model considering how mini-van's are not longer in style and have not been for quite some time. The Routan is produced in a plant in Canada and the current contract of production has expired and won't be renewed for this model. A Routan successor simply is not in the cards especially considering the poor sales performance of the model in the United States. It's basically just a rebadged Dodge Caravan anyway. ...Published on 12-11-2012 02:11 AM
Here is a nice set of sphyphotos of the upcoming BMW i8 courtesy of AutoGuide. This newest set shows the closest to production ready version of the i8 thus far. The rear windows show off the trademark BMW Hofmiester kink and the body work itself looks toned down from the concept. The styling will be of course be futuristic but toned down from the concept but the real question will be if they can match the lofty engineering goals of the concept. ...
