The Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 is an incredible motor certainly worthy of the awards it receives. The motor won a very impressive 4th straight Ward's 10 Best Engine title. The executive editor of Ward's Auto stated, ""It's hard these days for engines to stay on our list for two or three years, but the Audi S5's 3.0L supercharged V6 has managed four straight years, and it does so with stunning grace and power. This engine does everything well -- it's quiet at idle and potent when prodded -- in a number of vehicle applications." ...Published on 12-12-2012 08:21 PM
This is an interesting matchup between two cars with similar sized and turbocharged four cylinder motors. The main difference here being that the GTI has front wheel drive and the Evo 8 is an all wheel drive vehicle. The front wheel drive layout of the GTI actually helps it in this race despite its smaller turbo due to lower drivetrain losses as it is able to pull the Mitsubishi Evo in a couple of the videos although it is very close between the two. ...Published on 12-12-2012 05:43 PM
Here is the M version of BMW's "four door coupe" the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe features the same 560 horsepower S63tu powerplant as the BMW M5 and M6. A dual clutch transmission is standard and a manual may be optional although is not mentioned at this time. Unfortunately the press release does not contain any of the important details such as the curb weight of the car or the price. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:32 PM
Ok, so here is the new 2-Series which will use the F22 and F23 chassis designations. The new F20 1-Series did not come to the United States being a hatchback, which also means no new 1M, but the 2-Series is set to fill that void. Make sense? Good. So the 2-Series will have a convertible variant and a coupe. The drivetrain will be shared with the the F20 1-Series meaning 28i and 35i models using the N20 and N55 motors. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:08 PM
Here is a rendering of the upcoming W205 generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The car is expected to take on some styling cues from the newer models including the R231 SL as can bee seen in the headlights. It remains to be seen how accurate this rendering is but if the final product is similar Mercedes will have a hit on their hands. The main interesting development especially for AMG performance enthusiasts is the idea of all wheel drive on the C63 AMG. ...Published on 12-12-2012 12:06 PM
The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Concept is supposed to point to future Porsche styling directions. Porsche is pushing this concept very hard and here is yet another piece of media showing the car off. This design direction is important as the new Porsche models such as the Macan will be borrowing from it. Beyond the styling, the drivetrain is based on a hybrid setup which also will be a staple of future Porsche models. ...Published on 12-11-2012 09:25 AM
No surprise the new W212 E-Class facelift was leaked early onto the internet before its official Detroit debut. The leak comes from an unknown European source showing the European model. The images are fairly low resolution but still reveal the majority of the design details. Obviously the largest change is to the headlights which ditch the classic separated look for a single headlight that attempts to mimic the angles of the old separated look somewhat. ...Published on 12-11-2012 06:32 AM
BimmerBoost would like to thank member GeorgiaTech335Coupe for his openness and honesty regarding his Vishnu/FFTEC single turbo setup. Recently, this member took his single turbo upgraded 6-speed manual 335i to the PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) dragstrip in Florida to do some testing. His best run was a 12.50@121.6 alongside a 12.8@117. Yes, these times are quite a ways away from the 10.8@131 glory pass from Vishnu demonstrating the kits capability. ...Published on 12-11-2012 05:41 AM
Here are spyphotos of the upcoming X156 platform GLA45 AMG. This car will mirror the drivetrain of the upcoming CLA45 AMG, B45 AMG, and A45 AMG. This means all wheel drive, a dual clutch transmission with 7-speeds, and a turbocharged M133 2.0 liter direct injected four-cylinder with an output of 354 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This car seems to be an answer to a question nobody asked. ...Published on 12-11-2012 05:10 AM
Spyphotos of the upcoming Porsche Macan entry-level SUV have shown it looking like basically a squished Porsche Cayenne. The Audi Q5 platform based SUV will apparently undergo a large redesign to differentiate it more from the Cayenne. Porsche admits the Range Rover Evoque has inspired the styling change. Straight from Porsche design chief Michael Mauer, “As the person responsible for the look of the cars, I'm not afraid to make changes. When I saw the Evoque, I thought, interesting. I like it.” ...Published on 12-11-2012 02:43 AM
Not really all that surprising that VW is axing this model considering how mini-van's are not longer in style and have not been for quite some time. The Routan is produced in a plant in Canada and the current contract of production has expired and won't be renewed for this model. A Routan successor simply is not in the cards especially considering the poor sales performance of the model in the United States. It's basically just a rebadged Dodge Caravan anyway. ...Published on 12-11-2012 02:11 AM
Here is a nice set of sphyphotos of the upcoming BMW i8 courtesy of AutoGuide. This newest set shows the closest to production ready version of the i8 thus far. The rear windows show off the trademark BMW Hofmiester kink and the body work itself looks toned down from the concept. The styling will be of course be futuristic but toned down from the concept but the real question will be if they can match the lofty engineering goals of the concept. ...Published on 12-10-2012 12:20 PM
This is definitely a fast B8 S4 and the same vehicle that pulled pretty well on a bolt on E92 M3 at a recent air strip roll on racing event. So, it's faster than a bolt on manual M3 but what about a tuned E92 335i? The result is not pretty for the 335i either with the S4 walking away. Fortunately, the race is not just an exterior view but also features a picture in picture view from the S4 to give perspective. The race is a half mile long from approximately a 40 mile per hour roll. ...Published on 12-10-2012 07:31 AM
The G-Class is somewhat of an antique yet it continues to be a model that evolves over time. The new direct injected V8's finding their way under the hood is a good example. With the new efficiency and grunt the G-Class immediately improves. So what does the $113,905 base price in the G550 get you? A 388 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque M278 Twin Turbo and direct injected V8 which propels the 5689 brick through the 1/4 mile at 14.6@94 miles per hour. ...Published on 12-10-2012 05:51 AM
This unfortunately is one of those times where a stereotype holds true, that being that Asian women are terrible drivers. Watching this video will reinforce it as this is one of the most piss poor parking jobs a BMW Z4 likely has ever seen. One would think entering something like a parking spot in a car would be simple but this woman manages to mess it up all kinds of ways. First she does it by pulling way too into the spot scraping her underbody. ...Published on 12-10-2012 05:48 AM
Misha Designs continues to expand their body kit offering. Recently a 955/957 body kit was released for the Cayenne and now Misha Designs has tackled the Panamera. The GTM kit pictured below is for the regular Panamera body but includes wider rear fenders. One can also order it without the rear fender extensions which gives a considerably cleaner look. Overall, the kit is fairly well done without being too over the top. ...Published on 12-10-2012 02:38 AM
Here is Volkswagen's WRC (World Rally Challenge) effort for 2013 courtesy of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC. VW devleoped this vehicle over a 17 month period and launched it this past week in Monaco. The car has a 6-speed sequential manual transmission and a 1.6 liter TSI four-cylinder motor which is limited to 300 horsepower courtesy of restrictors. Combine that power with a minimum weight of 2645 pounds and you have one very quick rally car. ...Published on 12-10-2012 02:13 AM
The Audi 4.2 V8 is somewhat long in the tooth and for owners wanting to squeeze more power out of it, say those with the Audi S5 before it got the new supercharged V6 3.0 TFSI motor, supercharging it really the main option for big power gains. This particular owner went to GMP Performance who hooked him up with a APR Stage III supercharger, DXD clutch upgrade, and new brake lines all to support the roughly 187 horsepower which will be added to the car. ...Published on 12-10-2012 12:52 AM
After teasing us for a bit Porsche has finally revealed the new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car. It is based on the upcoming 991 GT3 and features a 3.8 liter flat-6 putting out an eye-opening 460 horsepower. This is a bump of 10 horsepower on the previous generation cup car. Rear aerodynamics are adjustable with the rear wing and the front features a splitter and dive planes to generate downforce. Tires are wider in front and back and increase of 2 cm and 1 cm respectively. ...Published on 12-10-2012 12:05 AM
Congratulations to Scott Thies owner of the E92 M3 which recently set the overall E9X record surpassing the 10.69@129.38 set by VAC Motorsports in a VF-Engineering supercharged DCT M3. Scott's car just nudged past with a 10.65@131.79.
