Not really surprising especially with even the high end VW brands now incorporating plug-in technology such as Porsche with their 918 Spyder. More cars in the VW portfolio will be going the plug-in hybrid offering as the MKVII Volkswagen Golf is set to receive the technology in 2014. VW's head of electric development Rudolf Krebs stated, "Plug-in hybrids offer the best of the two worlds (of purely electric drives and combustion engines. This technology will soon be visible on the roads." ...Published on 12-17-2012 05:05 PM
This is my previous car that I shared about on another forum that banned me, but thought it was good info looking into tuning a 911 turbo. Car info: 2007 manual 997.1 turbo with 43,000 miles on Shell 93 octane. First the numbers, all these figures are with sports mode on and my Europipe. Note that the filters were not included in these numbers (see below). ...Published on 12-17-2012 12:25 PM
Yet another body kit launch from Prior Design this time for the Audi R8. This PD650 widebody kit was introduced by Prior Design at the Essen Auto Show. It consists of a new front bumper, side skirts, lip spoiler, rear diffuser, wing, roof scoop, and of course widened fenders. The material use is Dural-Flex FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic). The body kit is available for either V8 or V10 equipped R8 models. Nice looking kit but that roof scoop and spoiler are a bit too much, AudiBoost would prefer their kit without those two parts. ...Published on 12-17-2012 11:11 AM
BMS (Burger Tuning) is tackling the N63 4.4 liter Twin Turbo V8 platform which is great news for BMW enthusiasts. Up until now the only way to get a tune on these motors was through a flash. The BMS piggyback makes for an easy install and this is a mild tune (and in beta testing form) offering up only a boost of around 2 psi. This is less than the most powerful flash options but on par with the Dinan Stage III tune for far less money. ...Published on 12-15-2012 07:26 PM
APR just continues to roll out excellent products for VW and Audi platforms especially those equipped with 2.0 turbocharged motors. The kit makes for a very nice performance boost taking cars from baseline of 239 all wheel horsepower to up to 425 on 100 octane. The figures on 91 and 93 octane are 351 and and 371 all wheel horsepower respectively. Excellent increases in horsepower and torque across the board. ...Published on 12-15-2012 06:19 PM
The VF-Engineering supercharger kits available for the 996 and 997 Carrera models make for quite a bump in horsepower making for a potent vehicle. As dyno results of the VF-Engineering VF475 kit show on a 997 Carrera 3.6 the horsepower bump is substantial adding 120 horsepower to the wheels for a total of 441 wheel horsepower on a dynojet in SAE. Not a bad way for one to get 911 Turbo performance without having to trade the car in. Also the ability to remain rear wheel drive. ...Published on 12-15-2012 04:13 PM
Prior Design continues to launch aggressive body kits for various German Automotive models. This time, they decided to give the W204 C-Coupe some love with a Black Edition widebody which clearly mimics the W204 C63 AMG Black Series Coupe. There certainly is a degree of posing for whomever gets this as their car is not a real Black Series. However, there is no denying the quality of the reproduction and just how much better it makes the car look. ...Published on 12-15-2012 01:24 PM
So, the LA Auto Show is over but GermanBoost thought showing the rest of the photos that did not necessarily include German cars might be interesting. You likely already saw the BimmerBoost coverage of the i3 and i3, AudiBoost coverage of the four new TDI models for North America, Benzboost coverage of the SLS Black Series and GL63 AMG debuts, and of course the PorscheBoost coverage of the debut of the new 981 Cayman. ...Published on 12-15-2012 11:46 AM
After considerable development time and testing Gintani has released their Stage I supercharger kit for 5.0 liter S85 V10 equipped vehicles such as the E60 M5. Stage I delivers 6.5-7.0 psi of boost from a Vortech blower (self-contained oil) good for gains on the Gintani Dyno Dynamics of 165 wheel horsepower over the baselnie. Keep in mind the Dyno Dynamics reads lower than a Dynojet so the peak figure of 530.4 wheel horsepower would likely rise to around ~600 wheel range on a dynojet. ...Published on 12-14-2012 10:50 AM
Congratulations to BMW who continues to rack up engine awards and deservedly so. The new N20 4-cylinder 2.0 liter direct injected turbo motor makes the list for the first time. The BMW N55 (replacement to the N54) single turbo 3.0 liter direct injected and turbocharged six-cylinder makes the list for the second straight year. The Ward's competition differs from the International Engine of the Year award in that only 10 engines are chosen and the price is capped at $55,000 for the cars the engine must appear in. ...Published on 12-14-2012 10:00 AM
Here are more pictures and details of the facelifted 2014 W212 E-Class Mercedes-Benz. Engine choices remain pretty much the same but there are a couple notable changes. The E250 Bluetec Diesel model is now available with 4Matic all wheel drive. The lineup also gains an E400 Hybrid model which features a 3.5 liter V6 with 302 horsepower and an electric motor good for another 27 horsepower for a total of 329. ...Published on 12-14-2012 09:52 AM
Very impressive race here showcasing just how quick a K04 upgraded B5 S5 can be. The 2013 Nissan GTR in stock form obviously is a very fast vehicle as we all know. The B5 S4 is a much older car with a smaller motor but one that responds very well to upgrades. A K04 upgrade is relatively cheap and easy for the B5 S4 and with a good tune it can be quite formidable as the run in the video below with the GTR shows. ...Published on 12-13-2012 08:02 PM
Here is a roll on race at the air strip featuring an E46 M3 with an HPF (Horsepower Freaks) Stage 2.5 turbo kit putting out 700 wheel horsepower versus a 997 Twin Turbo that is modified and who owner is claiming puts out 685 horsepower at the wheels. The E46 M3 beats the 997TT down pretty easily so it leaves one wondering if the Porsche is really putting out the power the owner is claiming. In all fairness to the 997TT though the E46 does appear to get a sizable jump. ...Published on 12-13-2012 10:00 AM
Happy Holidays from BimmerBoost.com and all the GermanBoost Network sites. BimmerBoost would like to thank its users for their support and the strong community built here that continues to rapidly expand. It is no secret this is now the main site for technical BMW information as well as high performance modification thanks to the most knowledgeable and experienced userbase in the BMW forum sphere. Quite simply, BimmerBoost has evolved into the top performance/modification community in the BMW world and the rest of the GermanBoost network is following suit. ...Published on 12-13-2012 08:07 AM
Wow, quite simply, wow. The new ML550 is incredibly quick hustling its 5197 pounds to the tune of a 13.4@106 1/4 mile. This is basically the same acceleration once seen from the BMW E46 M3 as well as the C32 AMG. The idea of a heavy SUV accelerating like an AMG sport sedan was unheard of just several years ago, how times have changed. As a reminder, this is the 550 version and not even the 63 AMG which will be even more of a beast. ...Published on 12-13-2012 07:31 AM
More information continues to trickle out on the upcoming Audi R10 Diesel Hybrid Supercar. As reported earlier, the vehicle will incorporate technology from Audi's Le Mans winning R18 diesel race cars. Early reports suggest the drivetrain will offer horsepower in the 700 range with torque at 740 pound-feet. Big numbers and if combined with a carbon fiber body along with aluminum chassis to keep weight down this thing will simply fly. ...Published on 12-12-2012 09:48 PM
COBB is extremely happy to announce the release of the AccessPORT for the N55 powered 2011 BMW 135, 335i and 335xi. We have been cranking extremely hard to get this out – with our best engineers working on making this a terrific product. This is a Beta release – which means that although the support and tuning are 100% complete and, frankly, awesome – we don’t support every single ROM on the road right now. As most of you know (but your friends might not), a ROM is an individual calibration file that makes small tweaks to the Engine Control Unit from the factory. ...Published on 12-12-2012 09:43 PM
The Audi 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 is an incredible motor certainly worthy of the awards it receives. The motor won a very impressive 4th straight Ward's 10 Best Engine title. The executive editor of Ward's Auto stated, ""It's hard these days for engines to stay on our list for two or three years, but the Audi S5's 3.0L supercharged V6 has managed four straight years, and it does so with stunning grace and power. This engine does everything well -- it's quiet at idle and potent when prodded -- in a number of vehicle applications." ...Published on 12-12-2012 08:21 PM
This is an interesting matchup between two cars with similar sized and turbocharged four cylinder motors. The main difference here being that the GTI has front wheel drive and the Evo 8 is an all wheel drive vehicle. The front wheel drive layout of the GTI actually helps it in this race despite its smaller turbo due to lower drivetrain losses as it is able to pull the Mitsubishi Evo in a couple of the videos although it is very close between the two. ...Published on 12-12-2012 05:43 PM
Here is the M version of BMW's "four door coupe" the BMW M6 Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe features the same 560 horsepower S63tu powerplant as the BMW M5 and M6. A dual clutch transmission is standard and a manual may be optional although is not mentioned at this time. Unfortunately the press release does not contain any of the important details such as the curb weight of the car or the price. ...
