Another Mercedes Pole Position and another Mercedes letdown. That's the story of the season so far in 2013 for the Mercedes Formula 1 Effort. For the third straight race Mercedes held the pole position. At the Spanish Grand Prix this was even sweeter as Mercedes qualified 1-2 meaning this is as good as it gets folks. There are those times where car makers do things that are just so damn cool. Yes, this is one of those times and here is the Volkswagen Vision GTI. Essentially, this is a Golf on steroids from the exterior to what is under the hood. It's almost was over the top of the 650 horsepower mid-engined Golf W12 concept that VWBoost remembers so fondly (and still wishes was built). One thing BMW does well (and seemingly better than anything else these days) is market themselves. Tons of advertising, teaser videos, and basically propaganda designed to make us all think they still build the Ultimate Driving Machine. Enthusiasts of course know better as BMW has fallen from grace quite a bit but this does not change the fact that the general public buys into what BMW is selling them and Forbes agrees placing the brand as number 1 in the automotive world and 9th overall in the world. ...Published on 05-12-2013 02:51 AM

A solid showing for BMW Motorsport in what was a hotly contested GT class at the 2013 Monterey Grand Prix at Laguna Seca Raceway. The first five cars in the GT class finished within three seconds of each other. Despite the tight racing the Corvette C6 ZR1 was dominant holding the lead for the final three hours (of a four hour race) and taking the victory. Second place went to the number 17 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR which was then followed by the number 56 BMW Z4 GTE driven by Mueller and Edwards for a second straight podium finish. ...Published on 05-12-2013 12:05 AM
Interesting dynojet dyno comparison at the rear wheels comparing four sets of turbos on the Porsche 996 Turbo. These twin turbo setups are the A3076 at 28 psi on E85 tuned by Tony@EPL, A28 at 24 psi on MS109 tuned Markski, K16G at 22 psi on MS109 tuned by Markski, and a set of OEM K24 turbos at 15 psi on 93 octane tuned by FVD. It's great to see the 911 Turbo versus the R8 and Nissan GTR as they are all four wheel drive performance cars and now all also share having a dual clutch transmission available with the R8 getting its minor refresh. This is something enthusiasts want to see except that it isn't all that fair taking two stock cars, the 911 Turbo and the Audi R8, and putting them up against a 750 horsepower tuned GT-R. So let's see here, some random Russian garage is claiming 1370 wheel horsepower (seriously) with an ESS-Tuning supercharged E63 M6 and nitrous. The claim is with 98 octane fuel and a stock motor no less. I mean if you are going to lie at least make it somewhat believable. The most powerful S85 V10 in the world is V.S. Motors twin turbo S85 V10 with an output of 1850 horses on methanol with a 4.8 liter block whose bore was decreased for more material. ...Published on 05-10-2013 02:13 AM
These are some seriously eye opening numbers and congratulations is in order to VWBoost member patrick02 who continues to push his MKVI Jetta GLI equipped with a 2.0 TSI direct injected turbo four cylinder. He has set numerous records and just raised the bar even further. How does 554 wheel horsepower sound? I just want to relate my experiences with a recent RENNtech ECU tune for my 2012 CLS550 4Matic. I've been researching and considering a tune for a year now, but medical concerns have been a much higher priority. My goals may be different than others... I don't race at all, but simply wanted a reliable and efficient street tune. I wasn't worried if I didn't have the most horsepower... I crave usable street torque. In case you needed any more convincing regarding if the Maximum PSI turbo kit for the E46 M3 is the real deal this should alleviate any and all doubts. How does a 10.868@131.08 with a 1.71 60 foot sound? That's exactly what the Stage 2 Maximum PSI E46 M3 S54 turbo kit was able to achieve just a few days ago at the ATCO drag strip. 10's are very impressive especially on the E46 M3 platform that has a weak rear end and is tough to launch but the kit was shown putting down 697 wheel horsepower in Stage II trim as it is said to be running at the track. ...Published on 05-08-2013 01:13 AM
The 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus is currently the highest performance Audi R8 options in the lineup. It has the big 5.2 liter V10 with a more aggressive tune sporting 550 horsepower. The dual clutch transmission replaces the sequential manual previously used for quicker shifts. This thing should accelerate impressively especially with its all wheel drive helping the launch so what did Emdunds get out of it? The defending champs appear to already be in stride this season. Last year marked BMW's return to DTM racing and it was a spectacular season with BMW capturing the championship in the final race with a classic come from behind victory. No excuses regarding inexperience, rust, or not having a full field of cars this year and excuses are not needed. Volkswagen told Edmunds that upcoming performance versions of the MKVII Golf will feature a carbon fiber roof. The most obvious performance version coming is the Golf R which is expected to be pretty much be a re-skinned Audi S3. That means less weight (about 150 pounds less) and more power from a 2.0 liter turbo direct injected motor at just under 300 horsepower. Sad, sad day indeed for the BMW community. The aftermarket tuning game is not an easy one. Especially when it comes to BMW's these days with ever increasing sophistication of their electronics and BMW doing everything in their power to prevent modification. Thankfully, there are some companies that simply do not give up and do what many say can't be done. Here it officially is, the Renntech M157 turbo upgrade package which will retail for $11,850. Several dynos has been posted showcasing the strength of this package including a 691 wheel horsepower run on 93 octane pump gas which they when were able to raise to 725 wheel horsepower being the first and only tuner to crack the 7XX horsepower barrier on pump gas. Wow. Quite simply, wow. Talk about a car that just right out of the box impresses. Close to mid 10's and 130 in a stock car, incredible. The 997.2 Turbo S simply is a epic achievement. The launch control and PDK transmission clearly help as a 1.58 60 foot is mind boggling for a stock car on street rubber. The launch control system works and works very damn well. The Toyota 2JZ motor. The engine out of the Toyota Supra that has reached legendary status in tuning circles and was every teenage boys dreams ever since its "iconic" scene in the Fast and Furious movie. Some BMW enthusiasts go so far as to compare their six-cylinder motors to it as if that is some kind of badge of honor. The 2013 season has been a letdown thus far for the Mercedes AMG team. Everyone expected stronger competition especially after the signing of Lewis Hamilton and Daimler assuming full control of the F1 team. Things looked pretty good with Mercedes AMG sitting on the pole for the last two races but unable to turn their strong starting position into some big points to move up in the standings. This topic at this point is just exhausting. The car is perpetually on again off again without any definitive decision being reached. The car was put on indefinite hold last year while VW evaluated whether it made any sense considering it would take 50,000 yearly unit sales for the model to be profitable. VW design chief Walter de Silva believes the vehicle would be good for the brand and recently stated he is for it being built, "This is a vehicle that we particularly like, and we always have in mind." ...
