BMW qualified 5th and 7th for the race today, August 7, at Mid-Ohio. BMW has not been very strong in qualifying but has been extremely strong in racing. The qualifying was extremely tight with the number 90 M3 being separated from the pole setter by a half second. Bimmerboost decided to get in on the M5 renderings. With the newest spy photos we believe we have created a very accurate representation of what the M5 will look like. You will notice the wheels are the same as the newest spy photos show and our take on the vents above the fender. ...Published on 08-06-2010 05:18 AM
Rumor has it Mercedes is preparing to go after the BMW M3 Coupe with a coupe of their own. The C class coupe would share the drivetrain from the C63 sedan which would mean it would get the same 6.2 liter V8. If Mercedes shoved their new twin turbo V8 in this thing, they would instantly dominate the landscape but most likely be stepping on the toes of their more expensive AMG models which is why they won't do it. ...Published on 08-05-2010 01:10 AM
Since it is E46 month here on BimmerBoost, here are pictures of one of the sweetest E46's out there. This is HPF's personal shop car which is decked out for track duty and running an HPF Stage 3 turbo kit. This car has set some very fast lap times at various BMW events this year. Enjoy the pictures. ...Published on 08-04-2010 07:18 AM
This project was done by a user by the name of glenn-b from the UK. This is apparently his second swap. The car is also a beautiful Warsteiner racing M3 replica. The tuning was done utilizing the factory ECU. We await more details from the owner but in the mean time, bask in the awesomeness. ...Published on 08-04-2010 02:06 AM
OE tuning recently did a custom dyno tune for an X6 M. The torque gains through the curve as immense as one can see. The peak HP gain is only just over 20 hp at all 4 wheels. It appears the stock turbos seem to run out of steam up top. The torque difference is a whopping 79 pound-feet at all four wheels at under 3500 rpm. ...Published on 08-03-2010 05:44 AM
Autocar is reporting that the BMW M6 has ended production and the S85 has met its demise as a result. To be perfectly honest, Autocar hasn't had the most reliable info as of late. We also find it surprising that BMW would not do a press release for the end of the M6 and S85 production run. BMW did see fit to offer a press release to officially document that the E60 M5 ended production.
Obviously, the current generation 6 series is coming to an end with the successor to be revealed in September at the Paris Auto Show. Before we put a fork in the S85, we just want to hear it from BMW first hand, not from Autocar, who claimed there would not be a next generation M6. ...Published on 08-02-2010 07:36 AM
We will be honoring the E46 during all of August at BimmerBoost. We will be providing tuning guides specifically for the platform including forced induction guides for the S54 and M54. There will also be suspension guides as well as interviews with various E46 tuners.

Congrats to Stahlgrau for Car of the Month, August 2010. Take a look at his garage for pictures, details, and the eye opening mod list . The car is extremely well modded and this is the template for how one should list their mods. The only things missing are dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times. Well done, beautiful vehicle! ...Published on 08-01-2010 06:19 PM
BMW Motorsport finished in third and fourth place at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours. Normally, this would be considered a great result in a field that was so tightly packed. However, BMW led the race for over 20 hours. A victory was all but assured as the leading BMW had a 2 lap margin on the trailing Porsche. Suddenly the left-front track rod gave out and the M3 crashed into the barriers. The damage was repaired in the pits but by that time the lead was lost with no time left to recoup it.
This is a huge disappointment for a BMW team that dominated the race. The M3's even ran 1st and 2nd at one point before conditions became very harsh. Even with the 3rd place finish BMW still has the most victories at this endurance race with 21 to its name.
What the drivers had to say: ...Published on 08-01-2010 12:55 AM
BMW currently has a one lap lead on the entire field at the halfway point of the 24 hours of Spa. The number 79 M3 continues to the lead the race and has set the fastest overall lap time with a time of 2:22.710. Rain once again came down hard and has been intermittent. 12 hours to go.
Comments from the drivers at the halfway point: ...Published on 07-31-2010 05:47 AM
With intermittent heavy rain and unpredictable conditions making warm up runs and qualifying difficult, BMW has managed to quality 2nd and 6th spots with the pair of GT2 M3's. Dirk Werner set the second fastest lap with a time of 2 minutes and 22.549 seconds. Ferrari took the pole in the number 78 F430 GT car driven by Gianmaria Bruni. The The Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours will start at 16:00 hours (local time in Belgium) on July 31st.
The M3 GT2's have been coming on stronger and stronger and the race will be tightly contested. The driving teams have been rotated and differ from the 24 hours of Le Mans teams. Dirk Mueller, Drik Werner, and Dirk Adorf will be driving the number 79 M3. Yes, that is a bunch of Dirks. Pedro Lamy, Jorg Mueller, and Uwe Alzen will be driving the number 78 M3. Best of luck to BMW Motorsport! ...Published on 07-28-2010 02:02 AM
Roman at ESS is now attempting to back out of the tuner dyno day shootout. I would like to remind everyone, ESS requested this dyno comparison themselves and asked BimmerBoost to schedule it. Now that the date is nearing, ESS is going back on their word at the last minute

MotorTrend has put together a very interesting comparison of the heavy hitters in the luxury sport coupe segment. We will not spoil it for you (watch the video below) but the the results are pretty much as expected. The M3 is the lightest car in the class by over 300 pounds to the next closest competitor, the Audi RS5. The CTS-V weighs in at just under 600 pounds more than the M3 at a whopping 4254 pounds. That would certainly explain why the CTS-V coupe only manages 4 more mph through the traps than the M3, despite the 140 horse advantage on paper. This just further goes to show how efficient the M3's drivetrain is. ...Published on 07-27-2010 02:39 PM
These are pictures of the hatchback which the USA will likely be skipped over for again. The car is a bit taller and longer. Powerplants will likely be what we already have, the N52 and N55. The 1 M Coupe still is not out yet the next gen 1 is already undergoing testing. Since the M model is coming at the end of the run for the E82 production will be limited as the introduction of this model is coming next year. ...byPublished on 07-25-2010 02:06 PM
I've always done my own car work but in my past vehicles that has consisted of oil changes and audio upgrades (Geo Metro ftw). The point is this is my first go at real vehicle work and modification. One of the first things I tackled was upgrading my intercooler after reading how important it was. I went with AMS based on their solid design and testing.
For my install I got my hands on a lift however it was an hour away. We ended up getting there about an hour before they closed so it was kind of a rushed operation but thanks to the perfect fit we got it done. We had trouble getting the stock couplers off. They have a some kind of one time use band on there and of course I didn't bring a dremel. We ended up taking off the charge pipe to get at one side easier. ...Published on 07-24-2010 05:03 PM
The M3's ran an extremely tough race. Despite qualifying at the back of the back, the M3's charged to the front and challenged for the lead the entire race. The number 90 M3 driven by Joey Hand set the fastest lap in the class with a time of 55.943. The BMW's continue to get stronger and stronger as the season progresses.
Some of the toughest racing was between the two M3's themselves, with teammates Bill Auberlin and Joey Hand going head to head. The M3's were not able to catch up to Patrick Long in the GT3 RSR. This is the second time now that Patrick Long has managed to hold off the M3's and take the win. By finishing 2nd and 3rd BMW will hold on to its manufacturer lead but is behind in the driver standings. ...Published on 07-24-2010 04:28 PM
Here we have graphs on a dyno dynamics of the Stage 2 tune from CA Automotive. This Dyno is obviously set to read high as they are not making 538 whp, impossible. The dyno is corrected but we have no idea just how high the correction factor is. The gains are claimed on 93 octane but we just don't find these numbers possible without huge correction factors to exaggerate the gains on what is a notoriously low reading dyno. ...Published on 07-23-2010 05:30 PM
The Weather for the North East Gran Prix was very rainy during qualifying today. The M3's did not qualify well with the number 90 qualifying in last place and the number 92 in 9th place. The M3's have not been strong qualifiers through the entire ALMS series and it seems the rain exacerbated that. However, the M3's run very well during the races and BMW took over 1st place in the overall standings after the last race. ...
