Here is the blower that will be used for the 3.0 TFSI Stage III supercharger upgrade from APR, the Eaton TVS 1740. This is a new blower designed to slot in between TVS1320 and TVS1900. The B8 RS4, RS5, and R8 with the 4.2 FSI will also have this supercharger available as an option from APR. APR has been working with this blower for the past 12 months getting it right and chose it due to having to deal with packaging constraints. ...Published on 02-28-2013 11:20 PM
This recall affects 2012-2013 Porsche 991 generation 911 models but only those built from March 7, 2012 until November 12, 2012. If you own a 2012-2013 991 please call your dealer immediately to see if you are affected. The exhaust pipe issue is that the piping will fail or fracture causing the pipes to separate from the muffler. You can see how this can be a major safety issue not just for owners but for others on the road if this were to happen at high speed. ...Published on 02-28-2013 11:10 PM
Very interesting race between a PP-Performance tuned M157 bi-turbo CLS63 AMG and a Lamborghini LP700-4 Aventador. The run is from a very high speed starting at 150 km/h which is just under 100 miles per hour. The race goes until 180 miles per hour so the cars definitely both stretch their legs. The CLS63 AMG stats out slightly in front and gets the jump on the Aventador. The cars are very closely matched although the Aventador does appear to close the gap a bit. ...Published on 02-26-2013 10:50 PM
So yes the BMW i8 hybrid sports car is still coming and scheduled to be in showrooms by 2014. The final production ready car should be revealed toward the end of this year. For now, BMW is still testing and was doing some winter testing when EVO got a chance to take a spin in the car. The three-cylinder motor is still getting tuning but output is still expected to be in the 223 horsepower range for the 1.5 liter turbo motor and 354 when combined with the 131 horsepower electric motor. ...Published on 02-26-2013 09:31 PM
Well here it finally officially is, the APR 4.0 TFSI Audi twin turbo V8 tune. APR teased this upgrade with some great content including before and after drag strip results as well as a speedometer before and after tune overlay. Suffice it to say the tune makes a noticeable difference and on pump gas gets the car practically into the mid 11's in the 1/4 mile tune only. Now we have the full overlay of maps, dyno graphs, and pricing. ...Published on 02-26-2013 03:34 PM
A big congratulations is in order for PPF (Pure Performance Factory) of Sweden for obliterating the M54 horsepower record and setting a new and very high bar for the platform. How does 801 wheel horsepower on the M54B30 sound? Well to BimmerBoost it sounds absolutely amazing as this pushes the platform to a whole new level. For years now the M50,S50, and S54 motors have gotten all of the attention out of the M5X engine family and it is nice to see the M54 coming into its own. ...Published on 02-26-2013 03:03 PM
Very, very nice results here on an M157 bi-turbo W212 E63 AMG equipped only with a Eurocharged M157 tune. This tune is for a pump gas 91 octane setup so not a high octane race file. The car did however mix in some MS109 race gas which likely gave some timing benefit. 1/4 tank of 91 octane pump gas with 5 gallons of MS109. Filters are K&N just for full disclosure. The result at the Famoso drag strip in California? 11.378@128.26 on street tires. ...Published on 02-26-2013 02:41 PM
261 miles per gallon, not a typo. Bet your Prius doesn't feel quite so efficient now does it? The XL1 originally began as a concept 10 years ago and has been updated since. The newest iteration features a plug-in hybrid system allowing 31 miles of travel on the battery alone. Aerodynamics play a huge role with the .189 coefficient of drag making the car quite the slippery design. Add in lightweight cabon fiber bodywork and you have one incredibly efficient car. ...Published on 02-26-2013 02:56 AM
Daimler is keeping the same person at the top and not doing any top executive shuffling. Dieter Zetsche (also known as Dr. Z) will remain as Daimler CEO through 2016. There was talk of extending his contract further but due to his age (59) there were apprehensions about extending someone deep into their 60's. Head of research and development of Daimler cars at Thomas Weber also got an extension for the same time period as Zetsche. ...Published on 02-26-2013 02:40 AM
The BMW Z4 GTE was already introduced with specs and a press release but BMW Motorsport decided to put up an intro video as well. Titled "Our new challenger" it's a great marketing piece as BMW videos often are. The car looks and sounds absolutely fantastic and no doubt will be a strong contender even though this is its inaugural season but BMW no longer has an absence from ALMS to use as a performance excuse. It should be ready to go out of the gate. ...Published on 02-22-2013 08:37 PM
The presentation pictures introducing the next generation 2014 S-Class were leaked out early and Worldcarfans managed to get a hold of them. Interesting to note is that the model designation will be V222 and not W222. For whatever reason Mercedes-Benz is moving up a letter in the alphabet as they probably feel the W numbering system is getting too cluttered. Regardless, here are the details on the upcoming S-Class. ...Published on 02-22-2013 08:31 PM
This is supposedly a stock E60 M5 and BimmerBoost will give the benefit of the doubt even though the M5 just flat out runs away from the CLS550 with the twin turbocharged M278 powerplant which responds very well to modifications. The problem though is the CLS is running some crappy piggyback BenzBoost has never heard of. Renntech has gotten the M278 with their flash up to 489 wheel horsepower as the Mercedes M278 versus BMW N63 comparison article on BenzBoost shows so a good tune should beat a stock E60 M5. ...Published on 02-22-2013 04:40 AM
When Mercedes-Benz announced the E63 AMG facelift and that it would have all wheel drive as well as a fairly large power boost it made everyone wonder if the M5's time at the top (primarily due to its underrated motor providing a horsepower advantage) would be short lived. Well, it certainly appears that time is now over as the E63 AMG S 4Matic is now clearly the superior performance car according the test data below. ...Published on 02-22-2013 03:10 AM
Here is the official Audi trailer video for the new RS Q3 which was just revealed. A nice little teaser video which shows off the styling as well as the engine sound of the car. Audi has the the vehicle playing in the snow while chasing and passing a dog sled essentially showing off the Quattro traction and grip in adverse conditions. Your US fans are sufficiently teased Audi. Please, please bring this vehicle to the USA. Pretty please? ...Published on 02-22-2013 02:35 AM
Here is the Eurocharged tune for the new 63 AMG models with the M157 Twin Turbo V8. The tune retails for a very reasonable $1475 and Eurocharged is having a special until the end of this month lowering the price to an incredible $999. What that money gets you is a very nice bump in horsepower and torque. Wheel horsepower goes up to 617 at the wheels on the fairly conservative Mustang dyno tune only on pump gas. ...Published on 02-22-2013 01:21 AM
Interesting comparison here by Sport Auto between the 991 Carrera S which is rear wheel drive and the 991 Carrera 4S which is all wheel drive. Both cars have the same 3.8 liter flat-6 engine with 400 horsepower. The test cars are both manual so it is interesting to see how the addition of all wheel drive changes things. The difference in weight between the two cars just 29 kilograms (just 63 pounds) which really is not much additional weight at all. ...Published on 02-22-2013 12:41 AM
Here it officially is, the new MKVII Volkswagen GTD. This is essentially a diesel GTI featuring a 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel powerplant with 184 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque. The car should have pretty good pep with a curb weight of only 3,036 pounds. Volkswagen says the 0-60 is 7.5 seconds although that is likely conservative. And with a tune to unlock some of that hidden power and torque this should be an interesting diesel performance platform. ...BMW attempting to fix the mess that is the F07 5-Series GT with a major styling facelift - Spyphotos
Published on 02-20-2013 10:31 PM
The 5-Series GT is awful. Yes, awful. It's ugly, it doesn't sell, it's a flat out disaster and hopefully one that is costing BMW tons of money so they pull their head out of the sand. BMW is determined to force a round peg into a square hole and so will be giving the F07 5GT a major styling refresh. Will it work? Will it somehow change BMW already declaring the 5GT a failure and one of their former executives stating they wished they kept the 5-Series wagon instead? Doubtful. ...Published on 02-20-2013 06:01 PM
Yes, Mercedes-Benz will be bringing an S-Class coupe with the next generation W222 S-Class. The S-Class will no longer be just a sedan but also a coupe and a convertible which was spotted testing last year. The demise of Maybach has made it so that Mercedes-Benz wants to stretch the W222 S-Class platform as much as possible with many different variants. This also means there will be no more CL-Class and that name much like the CLK will be dropped. ...Published on 02-20-2013 01:42 PM
Audi was quick to jump on the announcement after the press photos of the RS Q3 leaked out yesterday. Initially thoughts were that the car would mirror the concept but there are some significant changes. No 360 horsepower from the 2.5 liter inline-5 engine. Instead, power is set at 310 horses apparently in order to avoid stepping on the toes of the SQ5. That's fine, nothing an aftermarket tune won't be able to fix meaning a lot be gained software only on this car. ...
