After Mercedes won the first race of the season at Hockenheim, Audi came back strong winning the second race. The season is poised to have a lot of tight back and forth action with Mercedes and Audi seemingly being very evenly matched early on. A big congratulations to Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller for his first ever DTM win. The next race is in 21 days in Austria. ...Published on 05-15-2011 09:36 PM
Congratulations to BimmerBoost member Msizzle for breaking the 1/4 mile record for the quickest M6! Msizzle ran an 11.827@120.67 breaking the previous record held by an MHP tuned M6 of 11.870@119 mph. Interestingly enough, the new record was set at the same track the previous record was set, ATCO in New Jersey. Car has a full catless Evosport exhaust including headers, Powerchip Stage 3 race tune, and was run on Mickey Thompson drag radials. ...Published on 05-15-2011 03:37 AM
Vorsteiner has been on a tear as of late releasing kits for all the major German makes. The Vorsteiner V-PT kit for the Panamera is the latest and adds necessary aggression to the Porsche sedan. The complete V-PT setup includes a front bumper, side skirts, spoiler, rear bumper, and also an exhaust system. The exhaust offers weight savings of up to 40%. Check out the pictures and video. ...Published on 05-15-2011 12:37 AM
Here is Bimmerboost coverage of BimmerFest 2011 courtesy of BB member fastgti69. It was not the most beautiful California day having been largely overcast but it was nice and cool. Turnout was quite large with most of the major SoCal players in attendance. Take a look a the photos to get an idea for yourself. A big thank you to fastgti69 for photo coverage from beginning to end. ...Published on 05-14-2011 11:41 PM
Yes, a ton of wagon discussion as of late. From our BMW F11 M5 touring renderings to the news of the E63 AMG wagon coming to the USA, all the wagon talk convinced our graphic design artist Wild-Speed to show his take on the RS6 Avant. Audi has announced that it will be revealing the new A6 avant next week and we believe an RS6 version is almost sure to follow. Expect it to have a twin turbo 4.0 liter direct injected V8 with horsepower somewhere in the mid to high 500's similar to what is offered in the new Continental GT. ...Published on 05-14-2011 01:53 AM
Yes, Audi is still coming to market with the all electric R8. It is currently looking like the car will hit showrooms in late 2012. This video shows behind the scenes development and testing of the car. The is impressive with this car is unlike the other electric versions of gasoline automobiles (like the SLS E-cell) there is no major weight penalty with the R8 E-tron. It weighs 3,527 pounds thanks to the use of lightweight materials. With 313 horsepower and a fairly lightweight body, this is shaping up to be an exciting electric sports car. ...Published on 05-13-2011 11:56 PM
These are the first drag strip 1/4 mile numbers for the Active Autowerke Stage 2 supercharged M3. Pay no attention to the elapsed time as the runs were done on street tires and the 60 foots were over 2.0. What is important is the car hit 124 mph which is very solid on pump and meth. With a more aggressive launch and better conditions, 125 mph is a realistic goal for the 7.5 psi kit. ...Published on 05-13-2011 07:00 AM
Remember all those spyphotos of what was thought to be the 3 series GT? Well, AutoExpress reports that the car that was thought to be the 3 GT will be the new BMW 4 series. Why a 4 series? We wish we knew. This car is an answer to a question nobody asked. Did BMW learn nothing from the 5 series GT mess? How does this car make any sense? Is there some huge demand in the BMW community for a car that is the offspring of a 3 series raped by an X6? Would it not make more sense to just bring the wagons already being made over? We do not get it. ...Published on 05-13-2011 05:06 AM
This is unconfirmed as official but several sites are reporting that Mercedes intends to wind down the G-wagon production with a bang. Most details are coming from Autoblog.nl who reports a 600 horsepower version of the G-class with the M275 twin turbo V12 is coming. They also report that the price would be around $300,000 which makes absolutely no sense. Yes, a twin turbo V12 G-wagon is cool, but for $300k there are a lot of other things to purchase where that kind of money would be better spent. The price is likely off, if not the entire story. ...Published on 05-13-2011 03:10 AM
Here is a comparison video from Autocar that on paper should be spectacular, but as usual, Autocar's execution just plain stinks. You get two of the best German drivers cars in the world and this the best Autocar can do? No laptimes? No acceleration data? No skidpad/slalom numbers? No hard data of any kind? This video is the equivalent of two people taking two cars in the canyons while chatting on cell phones about what they think of the cars as if that is automotive journalism. American car magazines and blogs simply do these comparisons better, this is a major letdown. ...Published on 05-12-2011 03:35 PM
Congratulations to BimmerBoost member LostMarine! This is breaking news from the private track rental today at the ATCO drag strip in New Jersey. This run was done at 19 psi on the upgraded Rob Beck turbos. Car was launched in second gear on drag radials. Car also has meth and upgraded axles which it clearly needs now with all this power. Check out the timeslip below, more details are coming. ...Published on 05-12-2011 07:00 AM
Since we posted renderings of the F11 M5 we thought we might as well post the new Hamann program for the F11 5 series as well. It certainly doesn't hurt to look at even though the F11 is not available in the USA for whatever reason (likely that wagons do not sell well). Hamann basically carries over their F10 M-sport offering onto the F11 and the result is surprisingly well executed. Wagons are starting to grow on us. Bring it over BMW, it makes more sense than the 550 GT ever did. ...Published on 05-12-2011 07:00 AM
Here we have an R171 SLK 55 AMG that has been tuned by Eurocharged. The SLK55 has a 5.4 liter naturally aspirated V8 that is pretty potent to begin with offering 355 horsepower. Eurocharged is able to raise that by 19 horsepower at the wheels. The graphs show gains over the baseline throughout the entire curve. The tuning is very smooth and the they are able to get gains without aggressively leaning the car out. Just smooth, solid tuning across the powerband, well done. ...Published on 05-12-2011 04:00 AM
We reported in January of this year that Audi registered the SQ5 and RSQ5 names. It would seem Audi is intent on bringing a performance version of the Q5 to market. We are not sure which version you see testing here, the SQ5 or the RSQ5. Chances are good that the S4 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 will find its way into the car. Rumors right now are that the SQ5 will get the supercharged V6 while the RSQ5 may get the 4.0 turbo direct injected V8. It may also be that we only get the SQ5. Nice work Audi, bring them both on! ...Published on 05-12-2011 04:00 AM
Autoscoops.be is reporting that it has the exclusive leaked images of the production A-class. You will notice that it differs a bit from the concept which is not really a shock as it is toned down for production. The design is almost a bit boring compared to the hot hatch coupe concept. It is also reported to be front wheel drive which is disappointing to say the least. ...Published on 05-12-2011 04:00 AM
This is a good piece of marketing for the BMW performance parts division. BMW took stock cars as well as the same cars equipped with their performance parts to a track in Las Vegas for people to try back to back. The video mostly goes on and on about people saying the difference between the stock cars and the cars with the performance parts is incredible. For people experienced with the BMW aftermarket this video is amusing considering how mild the factory parts offering is. If a guy is impressed by an extra 20 horsepower he needs to try a supercharged M3 or a JB4 335. ...Published on 05-11-2011 06:30 PM
Obviously we are not referring to the 328 as most of you know it as a 3 series model that has been offered over the past few generations. We are referring to the original 328 BMW, a sports car produced in 1936. This car was famous for winning the Mille Miglia endurance race in 1940 as well as its class in the 1939 24 hours of Le Mans. It was an advanced car for its time featuring a tubular space frame and a 1.9 liter 6 cylinder putting out a beastly 80 horsepower. This was one of the first cars that really showed how sporty and capable a BMW could be. ...Published on 05-11-2011 06:00 AM
We know you have been waiting for dyno numbers for the M157 with baited breath just like we have. Now, the sleepless nights can finally come to an end. Insideline dyno tested the S63 AMG featuring the new twin turbo V8 powerplant with the optional Performance Package and all we have to say is: TORQUE, A LOT OF TORQUE. Wow, over 600 pound-feet at the wheels. They also overlaid the graph with the M159 naturally aspirated v8 out of the Mercedes SLS AMG and once you see the curves compared we don't think you or anyone else is going to miss the M156/M159 motor very much. ...Published on 05-11-2011 04:00 AM
The SLK isn't the manliest car to begin with but Piecha Design has managed to add some aggression to the new R172 SLK. From the quad exhaust to the front lip this car does a good job previewing what the AMG version may look like. If you are wondering why you see the sideskirts lightning up it is because there is an LED light option for the sideskirs. Yes, it seems tuners aren't satisfied with just sticking LED's in the front bumper but now are trying to put them anywhere they can. Price and part list is below. ...Published on 05-11-2011 04:00 AM
We knew the Audi S7 was coming from leaked documents detailing the motors going in upcoming models. Spyphotos of camoflauged cars have been circulating the web but now we have undisguised photographs. Nothing shocking here, basically what we expected. A quad exhaust and a more aggressive front fascia on a slightly lowered suspension featuring larger wheels. The car is likely to be unveiled at the Frankfurt show and rumors suggest an RS7 sharing the RS6 powertrain is in the works. ...
