12.1@121 is the fastest time we have seen so far for a Performance Package M157 twin turbo V8. You might recall that Insideline tested the S63 AMG with the performance package and hit 12.3@116 in the much heavier S class. The lighter (4256 pound) CLS63 puts up some very impressive numbers with 0-60 under 5 seconds and a low 12 second time. We have no doubt this means the lighter E63 AMG will hit 11's stock and about 124 mph in the 1/4 with the Performance Package. ...Published on 06-23-2011 11:41 PM
As you no doubt know (being an avid Audiboost reader, right?), APR released their pulley upgrade for the 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6's. These pictures show the process of installing the pulley on a B8 S4 which does not seem to be too difficult. So, go ahead and order up your pulley and do your own install. Pictures are courtesy of Elite Motorsports who did the install on this S4. ...Published on 06-23-2011 11:14 PM
The McLaren MP4-12C is the sports car of the moment. Having been recently released into magazine hands for testing we have already seen some very cool comparison videos. This is the first straightline performance comparison and the McLaren is very, very quick in a straight line. A 600 meter drag race allows the cars to stretch their legs a bit longer than a 1/4 mile which definitely helps cars of this power level show off. We won't spoil the result, check out the video. ...Published on 06-23-2011 05:37 PM
BMW provided a press release today with some new details on the F10 M5. Included in these details were that the boost is higher at 22 psi in the S63tu (F10 M5 motor) vs. 17.4 psi in the standard S63 V8 twin turbo in the X5 and X6 M. The compression ratio is also at 10.0:1 the same as the N63. The X5 and X6 M as you remember from our twin turbo V8 comparison article have 9.3:1 compression ratios. So the F10 M5 is higher compression and higher boost yet only rated 5 horsepower higher with rear wheel drive? ...Published on 06-23-2011 12:33 PM
The BMW X6 has been a runaway success. What does this mean? It means Audi and Mercedes are upset they didn't think of it first. Mercedes announced their intention to compete with the X6 with the GLS. The GLS will simply be a sportier version of the ML platform sharing components and motors just like the X6 does with the X5. A Mecedes spokesperson stated, “After closely monitoring sales trends, we’ve concluded there is potential for an additional off-road model with a more sporting emphasis than the new M-class.” ...Published on 06-23-2011 04:00 AM
Now, it is obvious that forced induction motors respond better to mods than high strung naturally aspirated powerplants like the S65 V8 in the M3. However, the M3 is still able to get substantial gains with a tune and exhaust such as this car here. It is basically a drivers race with the dual clutch transmission (DCT) in the M3 making it so that the EVO driver needs to shift perfectly to win. A great race overall, full mod list for each car along with the video below. ...Published on 06-23-2011 04:00 AM
This is a new widebody kit for the Porsche Panamera from Project Kahn. For a widebody kit, it is pretty subdued and not over the top. The 10 piece kit includes flared fenders, a roof spoiler, front bumper, rear bumper, sideskirts, and of course LED's for bumper. The kit is pretty nice overall although we could do without the Project Kahn wheels which seems a bit gaudy. ...Published on 06-22-2011 09:51 PM
A few days ago we posted an article detailing the Insideline test of the 2012 A7 which has the same supercharged V6 motor as this A6. Well, the A6 put up similar numbers although it hit 102 mph vs. 101. Basically, the cars are a wash with the A6 only being about 30 pounds lighter. The numbers are pretty good but imagine what they would both do if they had DSG's instead of automatics. ...Published on 06-22-2011 08:31 PM
If you have been living under a rock you do not know who Horsepower Freaks is. If you haven't, you know that they are the premier choice for E46 M3 / S54 turbo kits. If you want big power for your E46 M3, HPF is really the main option for good reason. The company has some of the highest horsepower BMW's out there and has grown into a giant in the BMW performance scene. Their customer service and marketing are really at the top of the BMW game. HPF continues to expand and we are proud to welcome them on BimmerBoost. Check out the article below about HPF from Performance Business Magazine and their newest video as well. ...Published on 06-22-2011 03:11 PM
Not your average drag race, eh? This matte white Maybach is running a Renntech tune. How much power is it putting out? Based on dyno tuned Maybachs we have seen at least 100 horsepower over stock with a lot more torque. The Panamera Turbo is running a Mansory tuning package and we are not sure what is done to the engine although power is claimed to be 650 hp. The drag race is in the heat at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway so the times are fairly slow for the power claimed although the Panamera dusts the Maybach. ...Published on 06-22-2011 01:22 PM
Ok, how cool is this? Yes, ridiculously cool. Now, granted, most of us do not have driveways like this. Actually, most of do not have cars like this. Still, if we did, we can see ourselves doing the exact thing. The driveway actually makes for a fairly tight track that almost resembles some autocross courses. Not the safest thing to do in the rain with all those trees lining the driveway but hey, his car, his driveway, he can do whatever the hell he wants and we like that. ...Published on 06-22-2011 04:00 AM
The new 7 series is a beautiful car. Seems BMW already feels it needs some exterior upgrades to stay fresh entering its third year of production. The front headlights are receiving changes along with the front and rear bumpers. New mirrors that house LED turn signals are also being added. It would appear that all the changes will be cosmetic, mechanicals to remain the same. ...Published on 06-21-2011 11:56 PM
This is a dream comparison. Car Magazine took the new McLaren MP4-12C out on the road course with Ben Collins (ex-Stig) against some of the best sports cars out there to see which would lap the fastest. The result is somewhat surprising and we will not spoil it for you, watch it. We also want to commnend Car on doing a proper comparison with a VBOX and laptimes unlike some of the other Brits (*cough* Autocar *cough*). ...Published on 06-21-2011 09:51 PM
This is a strong point of contention between Porsche enthusiasts. Has the rear engine seen its best days? Isn't it time to move the mid-engine Cayman up to the 911's level and stop holding it back? Well, Car and Driver did the kind of comparison that we all really wanted to see. They took a Cayman R vs. a 997 GT3 and the results are interesting but expected especially considering the GT3's higher price tag. ...Published on 06-21-2011 06:45 PM
Chevrolet continues to dominate BMW and everyone else in the WTCC. The Chevy Cruze won both race 1 and race 2. In the first race Chevy finished 1-2-3. It doesn't get more one-sided than that folks. The bright spot was Tom Coronel in his BMW 320 TC who managed a second place finish in race 2 moving him into 5th in the driver standings. He is more than 100 points behind Robert Huff who drives for Chevrolet in first. There is more talk of adjusting the weight to balance the cars. ...Published on 06-21-2011 03:10 PM
Over the past few weeks we have posted some very, very oddly modified cars. From the hideous triple headlight SL to the WTF Cayenne, people do some strange things with their cars. This vehicles isn't as bad as the aforementioned and is more of a take it or leave it design. We got an opportunity to park and speak to the owner (who was very nice) asking her about the car. She stated it was her design. She does various fashion work and wanted to do something different. We can respect that and the car certainly does stand out in a crowd. ...Published on 06-20-2011 11:09 PM
This is designed to be a lighthearted video although as with much satire there is some truth to it. To be honest, the video is mildly amusing and we don't care all too much for the reviewer. Calling the DCT an automatic? Well, it isn't an automatic and some people prefer winning races and maximum performance to babbling about clutch peddles. Saying the 1M is what the M3 should be, is, well, insane. The M3 should be a parts bin M car sharing a motor with 135's? No thanks. Take the video with a grain of salt and as an attempt at humor. ...Published on 06-20-2011 04:08 PM
Yes, BMW is going to keep throwing out teaser videos before the official reveal. At least it isn't as bad as with the 1M which they revealed fender by fender. This is the first video from BMW to officially feature the new M5. To be honest, there isn't much here other than slow-motion panning but it builds the anticipation as it was designed to do. One thing we do learn is that the HUD looks very nice. ...Published on 06-20-2011 12:33 PM
We reported last week that Mercedes was attempting to break the world record for drifting over distance. We are now pleased to tell you, they succeeded. Mercedes driver and instructor Mauro Calo successfully achieved what he promised. The previous record of 394 meters was obliterated with Calo going a total distance of an absolutely astounding 2308 meters or 1.4 miles. Congratulations to Mercedes, AMG, and Mauro Calo. Video and pictures below. ...Published on 06-20-2011 12:10 PM
The new 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 is becoming a popular Audi mod platform as Audi boosted motors often are. APR had an ECU tune available already for some time which was their Stage I upgrade. The pulley is their Stage 2 upgrade and to see the benefit it is best used in conjunction with the ECU tune otherwise the car will dump the excess boost. Gains with the ECU tune are very healthy at just over 100 horsepower at all four wheels, 117 AWHP with 100 octane. ...
